I was curious what drivers brought with them while dwelling in their trucks. What kind of electronics you take with you, what kind of food, medications,or first aid kits...that kind of stuff. Also I was curious. What kind of insurance covers a drivers belongings in a truck? Answer: Using the search feature should yield numerous posts regarding stuff to carry. As to insurance, generally no coverage on anything in truck tho you can buy special policies and/or riders from most insurance companies. Answer: "MUST HAVES" MMM lets see, XM radio is no1,Can`t live without it. As for insurance for this stuff, WHO KNOWS???? fishman Answer: check your yahoo email fishman Answer: micro cassette recorder .. then you won't have to jot everything down as you drive. Also great for dispatch busting" .. seems they sell a "dispatch buster" out there, huh? You had a choice, and you chose TruckNet. Thank you! You can wear them to your new job! Answer: National Truck Stop Directory. It's $11.95 at the truck stops and worth every penny. Might be able to order it online at www.truckstops.com. Enough clothes so you aren't doing laundry every three days. Several pairs of work gloves. They get very dirty very quickly. Small battery operated calculator. Pads and pens. Calling shippers/receivers to confirm times and directions is almost a must. Answer: A small hand held tape recorder or "Dispatch Buster". I use one for getting directions to shippers / receivers from my hands free cell phone speaker or for any special instructions from dispatch. I also use it for recording mileage when crossing state lines. A "Dispatch Buster" has a small microphone that can be stuck to the ear piece of a pay phone and you can tape directions that way. ******************************* "I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane!" (from Waylon Jennings) "The feel of the wheel delivers me, from a life where I don't wanna be." (from Joe Stampley) Answer: Half again as many socks as you have changes of clothes (i.e. ten days worth of clothes, 15 pairs of socks), wet socks are not a good thing and at least two pairs of shoes not counting safety shoes (steel toed). BOL Answer: A cell phone holder and Hands free head set. Nothing is more unprofessional than a trucker holding a cellphone in lefthand to right ear so he/she can shift. And just as STUPID and UNSAFE!!!!!!!!! As a company driver I had a $500 dollar credit card that never got used for purchases. That way I could always get home and not starve on the way! Never got used, thankfully! The rest gets mentioned elsewhere. But when I moved out of trucks it filled my wifes Dakota!! Answer: Baby wipes. Really....They come in handy for just about everything from freshening up to clean up of a small spill. A good flashlight. A small flashlight or pen light. Matches, a hammer and a rolodex to keep things like frequently called phone numbers as well as directions for places you go back to. A GOOD first aid kit. Some sort of skin lotion. We go some many climate changes that our skin dries out really easily. Also chapstick or equivalent. I'm sure there are other things but these come to mind for me. "Life is a circle" Answer: A sense of humor,if you can't laugh you'll get ulcers. Mike Answer: Good items above. I also carry an accordian folder that holds index cards. I use the 5 x 8 index cards. I write the receiver address on them along with instructions on how to get there. They are big enough to be able to read yet small enough to toss on the dash for quick reference. I keep them in the folder in alphabetic order. If you go the the same place later, you have the address and directions already in hand. These can be purchased at any Office Max or other office supply store. Answer: I like the accordian file idea. I use a rolodex but an accordian file seems like it would work better. You know that one thing that no one here has mentioned is a good battery operated alarm clock. I have a Screaming Meanie. "Life is a circle" Answer: sunglasses, lounge chair & tanning oil. FOR WHEN YOU GET TO CALIFORNIA park the truck, set up the chair & relax. Answer: Well my brother lives in Cali, so thats reason enough for me to go......
