Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

DAC, A couple of ?'s
Question:
I recently got a CDL with all endorsements and have been reading all I can find on trucking before choosing a company to drive for.
I've read a lot of horror stories about bad DAC reports. Now realize I'm only hearing the drivers side of the story, but surely they can't all be false.
Is it impossible to get something removed if in fact it was put on in error or is simply not true?
I have a spotless MVR and no accidents and I sure want to keep it clean.
I know Credit reporting co's used to be the pits until a law was passed to protect the consumer.
Thanks,
Partzee

Answer:
Some of the "Bad" DAC reports you hear about are true, but then again some the horror stories you hear about are also very one sided, meaning that some drivers really did deserve what was placed in there but refuse to confess to the truth of the situation, even to themselves.
All DAC is is a clearing house for the trucking industry. It provides a quick and easy way for those companies who use the service to verify facts about your employment, driving, and criminal record. None of the information a company provides about your time with them is verifed by DAC. If you ever feel there is an error on your DAC report there are recourses that you can take, from contacting DAC and asking that the item be removed if the company is unable to prove the information or adding a statement of your own to the report as explanation to taking legal action against the company who provided the false information, and if you win in court the information will be removed. This of course is an extreme generalization and for more accurate information you should contact DAC directly with your questions.
The only big problem with DAC is that they do not make any attempts to verify the information they recieve from companies. This leaves them open to unscroupolous companies out for revenge against a driver for whatever percieved injustice they think the driver commited. The best way to protect yourself from false DAC reports is to research a company and do your best to make sure they operate on the up and up and to request a copy of your DAC report from time to time (especially when you leave a company) and make sure there is nothing in there that either needs corrected or addressed in some manner.
I have a name not a number. I am not cheap but I am resonable.

This is really THE problem with DAC. A company can put a false negative report on your DAC and it will remain. You can ask DAC to remove it, but unless the original truck company agrees they filed an erroneous report, and tells DAC to remove it, you pretty much have to sue them and have a court force them to remove erroneous info. Otherwise, they will take a statement from you and post your version along with the negative info, and that may or may not hold any weight with a prospective employer.
False reports from truck companies are fairly common, so be careful. An example would be if you were quitting a company under less than friendly terms, and you asked them what they want you to do with your loaded truck. They tell you to take the load to the drop yard (since it doesn't deliver for a week), and bobtail your rig to the terminal. Since you are leaving on bad terms, they could then put on your DAC that you quit under a load, abandoned your load, and bobtailed without authorization. You won't find out about this until you try to hire on again to another company, and when you call the original compnay, they say there is no record of you getting any instructions to tell you to do what you did. It will be your word against theirs, and their word will have much more pull with DAC and other truck compnaies.

Yeah, you, I, and many other drivers.Just don't hold your breath.
Truckers have shown an inability to stick together for a common cause. DAC is not the top of the list. Since drivers cannot even be motivated to change the most serious of the things about this busiiness that need changing, anything farther down on the list has absolutely no hope in hell of ever being remedied.
Answer:
I agree that in this industry we all find it difficult to band together. But sometimes its better to start small and lead up to the bigger issues.

Answer:
I agree. there could be 10 drivers sitting at the counter drinking coffee and you couldn't get them to agree on the time, it is sad we are our own worst enemy!!!
