OTR Internet:
Question:
There are a few good options available.(these are in No Particular order) Park-n-View(click here) Idle-Aire's Truck Electrification Systems(click here) *Not many of these around.* Internet Kiosks(click here)*These are a bit Expensive...IMO* Get an 800# from a "Regular" ISP.(EarthLink, AOL, etc.), and use the phones in the trkstp restaurants to hook up to or if you are in a motel room you can use those phones.(some motels have separate jacks for 'net use.) I've noticed that some Pay Phones now have jacks on them to connect laptop. Whan I was OTR I used a few of the FREE ISPs such as: www.netzero.net (you get 10 hrs Every mnth Free.) If you use your 10 hrs Before the mnth is over you can either Wait til Next mnth(when you are issued a new set of 10hrs) or subscribe to the pay service. www.juno.com (10hrs every mnth Free...Same as NetZero) Get a PCMCIA Card(click here) for your laptop & use your cell phone as a modem to connect.(I have used this method & it is VERRRY SLOWW.) Go Wireless w/your Cell Phone.(most cell phones nowadays have the ability to access the 'net wirelessly...Built-In modem allows phone to be used to access the 'net.) Answer: Unless I missed it scanning choclt's post (good one by the way).... Prepaid Internet. I wish I could tell you more about this service but I really know very little about except that: 1. I have seen them in many truck stops lately. 2. You purchase your minutes like a rechargable phone card. The first time you buy minutes you get a CD ROM (available at the truck stop) to configure your computer for access. I belive then you connect via an 800 number. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: Thanx, uturn, I forgot about that one. Answer: Don't forget that some truck stops are adding Wi-Fi connectivity to the internet (Flying J for one). That'll allow you to connect to the internet via a wireless connection card (or Airport card for Apple users). The great thing is it is a broadband connection No more slooowwww surfing! I see the potential for a lot of truck stops adding this over the next year. Kermit Answer: Is there a way to see how many of the T/S are wired for WI-FI? This subject is of great interest to me. I am an online addict. My greatest fear is the withdraw I will have to suffer through when I got OTR. I spend most of my online time either browsing or playing online games, EQ/WWIIOnline/SWG when it comes out. As far as cost......I am willing to pay up to $100 month for a wireless broadband solution with nation wide coverage. I would need to have full internet, not some limited compression scheme. Thanks in advance.... Buzzdog Answer: I dont know of any sites with lists in regards to your question, but as laptops become more common among truck drivers you will see more and more truckstops offering internet hookups of somekind in the near future. In fact the trend is already starting among many of the major chains with the putting in computer rooms, providing data jacks on the phones, etc. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: Buzzdog, Sorry for the late reply... it has been a busy month in school (graduate on Thursday)... I haven't seen any listings for truckstops that have wi-fi connections... BUT, I did see an article somewhere that said Flying Js were going to have Wi-Fi in all of their truckstops starting this year. That's a start at least. I was actually thinking (always gets me in trouble) that someone could start a business up that installed Wi-Fi connections at truckstops across the country. It wouldn't be too hard... the truckstop would just have to have a broadband ISP in the area, hook up a server/antenna system to cover the lot and some type of billing system. I'm sure I'm oversimplifying... which always get me into trouble... but it shouldn't be much harder than that. I think it would be a great added-value money-maker for a truckstop. By this time next year, I think things will have really changed for the better. Kermit Answer: I just got a G-3 Phone Samsung N400 and got the soft ware from Raido Shack now that I got it working I have a faster hook up than at home with my dialup service. Sprint is the way to go far as I am concerned. Seek to know God and Jesus who was presented as the sacrifice of full payment for sin. Do the VI maintain your following distance maintain your lane position observe the speed limit observe the things around you and keep good records Safe driving to you.
