reefer vs dry vans
Question:
Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of both reefer vs dry vans thanks bob1056 Answer: Well, it is simple actually. Reefer=Refrigerated=Frozen TV Dinners, or fruits & veggies. Dry Van=Toliet Paper or whatever does not need refrigeration. Reefer drivers are responsible for keeping the cooling unit running and functioning. Dry Van drivers, keep her on the road. RookieTrucker Answer: the good thing about hauling a reefer is that you can take dry loads as well as reefer loads Answer: Reefers you have a whole 'nother power unit to keep running...i.e. they break down! Many loads have to be monitored to maintain a certain temperature, if not they will tattle on you! Probably the worst part about reefers is having to deal with grocery warehouses. As stated above you can not temperature controlled goods as well! Drive on! bandit58 Answer: Post posts and responses on the reefer v. van debate Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: thanks everyone for the replies. it looks like there is good and bad in both and that just makes it harder to chose. I'll let you know what I finally deside. I have about 4 week left in school yet before I need to deside. thanks bob1056 Answer: I Enjoy pulling a Reeefer. Not only do I do Less sitting/waiting for a load assignment, but I can haul perishibles & Non-Perishibles.(which is Why I do Less sitting.) I can usually tell the folks who have Never pulled a reefer....b/c their main Complaints are "dealing with Lumpers & Grocery warehouses." I have seen just as many Dry Vans at Grocery warehouses as Reefers. Did you Know?....Grocery warehouses usually unload the Reefers FIRST. Yes, it's True.... Although Reefers might have 2am-6am appts... Reefers are usually unloaded & on their way to p/u their Next load before the average dry vanner even gets a door assignment. (Which is a GOOD thing if it's a Friday morning in L.A.) And as for Lumpers....The Carrier Pays for Lumpers; so it's Nothing out of your pocket. ***This is just MY Opinion.*** Answer: Even though I've had a bad time recently at Shaffer, I still prefer the reefer over a dry box. Plus, I just can't seem to get to sleep without that sucker running ! Carlo, Trk #82682 0351/8151/6531 I.Y.A.O.Y.A.S "Pain is weakness leaving the body." "Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat." Answer: bob1056 I agree with what choclit snda said. With a reefer you can haul almost anything.I always thought with a dry box I wouldn't see to many grocery warehouses well I have seen quiet a few.I guess that the big advantage to a reefer would be less time waiting on a reload especially if you gou to california.I am giving some serious thought of going to a reefer co. but I haven't decided who I will try.I wish you good luck which ever way you choose to go.
