Roehl (driving test)
Question:
does anyone have any info on their orientation and the driving test they have you take? talked to a recruiter today about coming to them after I take my refresher course. and he said that they have no requirements on the # of hours of the refresher course, just make sure you can come down and pass our road test. was just wondering if theirs was anymore difficult than the rest? or was he just triing to scare me. any info is greatly appreciated. Rich... -Rich- Answer: Although I have never driven for Roehl I seriously doubt that their road test is any more difficult than that of any other company. Basically you are going to do a quick trip around the block, so to speak, and your evaluater is going to be looking to see if you are able to operate the vehicle in a proficient and safe manner that is equal to the general skill level you are hiring in to. (They will expect more from an experienced driver than a rookie who has yet to go through OTJ training anywhere). Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: is your plane every company driving test. Nothing to be worried about. They just want to be sure you have the basics to handle the truck in traffic. OT "Just a lonely sailor on a concrete sea...""And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." Abraham Lincoln Answer: uturn2001 and oldtimer49er, thank you very much for the info..... -Rich- Answer: I do drive for Roehl and have taken the test twice the first time just before finishing school and the second time following phase 2 training (20 days with a trainer). The test is quite simple they take you on a trip through town. They evaluate your shifting, following distances, set up and completion of right and left hand turns (there are a couple of tough ones), mirror usage, traffic interaction etc. Following the street they have you demonstrate a sight side back and a coupling / uncoupling. Its scored on a scale of 155 points. Its a pretty simple test eventhough it sounds complicated. The whole thing takes about 45 minutes start to finish. PP [This message was edited by PrestonPig on April 12, 2003 at 23:15.] Answer: thanks for the info Wiz.... -Rich- Answer: Its going well. I've been making all of my delivery times either on time or early. Except for 2 of them where the shipper is so slow to load that it makes it impossible to deliver on time. I'll hit my 10,000 paid miles mark early this week. My school reimbursement will start then. I've been getting mostly short trips (less than 700 miles), which is a drag...since I'd like to do some longer stuff. I'm sure that will change in the near future, as I gain more experience and continue to prove myself. As the past becomes the future unfolds Answer: I also drive for Roehl and the total test is anywhere from 10--20 mi. depending on the tester. You'll drive around town out south of the terminal and through the industrial park and have you back into a dock, and I guess a couple/uncouple, although I didn't have to do that. Just watch 4th st off Main drag right turn. Nasty narrow intersection with an island in the dumbest area. About 90% of the drivers usually hit the curb on the right side. Answer: thanks Razz... will make sure to watch those turns. -Rich- Answer: Peach st and 4th nailed me...LOL As the past becomes the future unfolds Answer: What is your milage like with roehl?? This is a company that I am considering when I finish school. Also what kind of tractor did you get assigned? Thanks in advance, Buzzdog Answer: I'm currently piloting a Century class Freightliner there are also a great number of internationals in the fleet. I've been averaging 2400 miles a week. Mostly my trips have been less than 800 miles. Hopefully I'll be getting some longer runs soon. As the past becomes the future unfolds Answer: I faxed off my app to Roehl today. They told me to check back Monday. A couple more questions about your tractor. Wondering what year it is, general condition of the company equipment you have been in and seen. Also wondering how Roehl is doing on the payroll side. I have a family member that is driving for Swift and he has had some run'a'rounds with payroll over there. Buzzdog Answer: Buzz...I drove for them for awhile (had to leave for some personal reasons) may go back after the birth of our 1st grandbaby (soon!). I kept track of my miles and any out of pocket money, and reconciled it when I got my checks, never had a problem! Even on the last checks they never shorted me, which I was waiting to see. I left the company on short notice so figured they might try to stick it to me! They even gave me a break on the sign on bonus that I owe back! They asked me if I would like to come back, I said give me few weeks I'll let you know, that made me feel good! Don't worry about the road test, if you can drive you can pass! I scored 124 during orientation, and a perfect 155 after Phase 1, they give you a nice shirt for a perfect score, your trainer even gets one! Maybe I'll see you guys out there again! Drive on! bandit58 Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
