Answer: and I hope the driver ends up OK..... This is a good lesson for everyone. Be very careful when opening those doors and SECURE you loads well. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: Yep it can happen easily and quickly. You had some good advice. Open the doors one at a time. If you feel pressure like something pushing on the door you'll know there's a problem. You have to be aware of what your doing all the time. Answer: Originally posted by Stuffiu: If you feel pressure like something pushing on the door you'll know there's a problem. If its heavy stuff and you go to open the doors and then you feel pressure, well its way to late, that stuff is going to come out on top of you. Believe me those doors are coming open in about 1 second no way to get out of the way before your hurt. Stand behind the drivers trl door. Reach over and and start to open passenger trl door. To check to see if load has shifted. Never stand behind this door and just pop it open. One of the first things new drivers are told about when coming on Dollar General account. Our loads shift all the time and most will fall out the back end of the trl when the doors are opened. Best way to deal with it is to pop open the doors and let it hit the ground. Because you will not be able to stop it from falling. "A choice between doin' ten years, and takin'out some stupid !@#$,ain't no choice at all." Mr.White (Reservor Dogs) Answer: Stand behind the drivers trl door Good advice -- IF the right (first) door only has one latch handle. Ours have two handles, so you need both hands to open them and HAVE to stand behind it to do so. I keep my weight forward and ready to jump back to the right-rear area behind the trailer. Even if the door knocks you over, as long as you're to the right of the side wall, you're probably out of the way of any falling freight -- which will fall directly behind behind the trailer. Unlatch the handles very slowly, since you can usually 'feel' when something's leaning against the door just before the latches release. Answer: I should of added to not stand behind the door when opening. Just common sense but mistakes happen. Good point Captsnub. I watched a fellow darn near get his head nocked off, he was hit hard enough by a door to send him flying backward. Not because of freight falling but because the wind grabbed it and threw the door open on him. I never stand in front of the door I'm opening. Always to the opposite side. It's sad to hear that driver did not make it. What seems like little mistakes can lead to very big problems. Try it this way unlatch the far right handle, then move behind the driver side door, then unlatch the next handle. Usually you can get that door open if not you can get it open just a crack to see if anything is behind it. If the door will not open then start with the far right of drivers trl door then the left handle of the door. You see you are moving toward your left, while you do it this way, always keeping yourself out of the middle of back end of trl. Oh believe me many of driver has thought they were quick enough to jump out of the way. At one time I thought I was that fast, after getting hit with falling boxes, trl doors coming open and almost taking my head off, I now know better. If enough weight is behind the door the door is going to swing open now!!!! And you got maybe less than a second to move. Nope you aint fast enough. Good tip, thx (how did that happen...) Answer: Not only is falling freigt a hazard, on windy days those trailer doors can hurt and/or kill too. I remember this one time when I opened the trailer doors, the wind snatched the door out of my grasp and slammed it open onto the side of the trailer. If I had been standing in the wrong spot it would've took me out. I always stand to the side when opening the right side trailer door...never behind the doors(no no), it only makes sense.
