Road Embargo?
Question:
Today, my dispatcher sent me just outside council Bluffs IA, to deliver some retaining wall block. The road I was to take had a sign that read, ROAD EMBARGO 10 TON LIMIT
What is a road embargo?
Thanks
Neza
"I am the one who can crush you into a fine powder."

Answer:
NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. em·bar·goes
1. A government order prohibiting the movement of merchant ships into or out of its ports.
2. A prohibition by a government on certain or all trade with a foreign nation.
3. A prohibition; a ban: an embargo on criticism
using the last one, I think they mean no trucks over 10 tons.

Answer:
wouldn't it just have been more plainly stated to just print " no trucks over 10 tons"?
Heck, I thought I was gettin into an argument between counties or something.

Answer:
I know for a fact, every spring, Minnesota and Iowa (there's a couple other states too!), post weight limits on secondary highways, county blacktops and township roads.
Ya just gotta watch for the signs before you turn onto "said roads".
Be careful!!!

3 : STOPPAGE, IMPEDIMENT; especially : PROHIBITION <I lay no embargo on anybody's words -- Jane Austen>

Answer:
Bad "Government Speak."
Means NO vehicles over 10 tons gross weight.
BTW-Hoss mentioned spring weight limits in Ia, Mn., and other states.
Spring breakup weight limits are absolute with no provisions allowing loads in excess of the posted limit.
If you have to deliver to a place down those roads it is your responsibility to make sure your vehicle does not exceed the posted limit.
If you decide to run it and get caught? Iowa, for example, 80,000 on a 10 ton road is 60,000 over on gross. If your tandems are 34,000 each, there's a ticket for 14,000 over on each set.
3 tickets, total overload 88,000 lbs.
You're in the dollar a pound plus range for fines.
