About LoriAz...
Question:
Since I was the one who first "went after" Lori for some inconsistent-appearing questions she posted on Truck.Net, I have a moral responsibility to try to straighten things up a bit. Following our first few exchanges (which carried over to another board), Lori and I connected in a chat room, and finally by telephone. Be assured of this: She is quite bright, utterly charming, disarmingly up front about her fears and interests regarding trucking, and comes to this board simply to learn... NOT attract attention or look for sympathy. (Which was my accusation, originally.) If you were to speak with her, I guarantee you'd come to the same conclusions. So. I think cutting her some slack is the right thing to do, and encourage everyone who "piled on" after I started the avalanche to now follow my lead again. (Messing with her is not one of my prouder moments on this planet. Please don't embarrass yourself as I did.) Thanks. DD Good Luck Lori In School Hey, if life throws you a curve ball, try and take a swing at it. Who knows what might happen Answer: Appreciate the suggestion, DD. I must have missed all that. I was just going by what she'd posted on the "school" thread. I know I probably came off as severe, but it's not just for Lori. I was making my point about fears (and such) in the strongest possible terms for anyone who might not understand the reality of this industry. Lori simply gave me the opportunity to rattle on about something I already feel strongly about. My apologies to you, Lori, if I was too blunt. Maybe I could have conveyed all that more gently or respectfully. But keep in mind -- you're stepping into a culture that is what it is. It's incumbent on YOU to adjust and adapt, and if you're as smart and committed as DD says you are, you'll do fine. I sincerly hope so. I want folks to be sucessful out here, or at least know what they're getting into before they get here. I think that's what most of us want here on the newbie forum, and that's why we're here with our contribution, albeit imperfect, preachy, accusatory, angry and thoroughly fumbled at times. Answer: http://www.carnival.com/ Not sure what to expect? Well, if your idea of fun includes great food, exciting activities, lavish entertainment, pampering service and discovering exciting new places, you'll find all that on a Trucking "Fun truck" Rooster cruiser vacation. --------------------------------- I'm sure she is a nice lady DD.But she will probably blow a gasket when she drives all night, skips meals and a shower to get to Dominic's and while tired and hungry and desperate for a shower, they run trucks right around here, because they just don't care or feel like toying with the broad just for fun. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with her,she just don't come across as passive enough to put up with the B/S many truckers just take in stride. She sounds like she thinks trucking is an escape from the B/S of the world,it ain't going to happen. It's just different B/S,no more Johnny said this and Mary did that B/S,it's just replaced by other B/S. Alexandria, VA, June 8, 2003 - Robert Hirsch, president of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) today expressed disappointment that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rejected a pilot program aimed at the trucking industry's critical and growing driver shortage. -------------------------- _________________ TruckNets Jobs.Truck.Net Online Application Click here Answer: DD, as you've had the best contact with the young lady, I'll defer to your judgement. Lori, I apologize for my comments about your just being a troll, however you will have to bend to be able to last in this business. It's not going to change to accomodate your needs. Being a twenty year Marine, I know a thing or two about "hurry up and wait", how to be patient, and how to soar like an eagle, when surrounded by buzzards. Call on me if you think I can help. Semper Fi, Wayne Answer: I don’t visit this board often anymore but it’s interesting to note that the general situation rarely changes. Allow me to offer a few observations: (1) It takes balls to publicly admit when you’re wrong; I’m impressed, Diesel Dog. (2) It is unseemly for potential drivers to pick on other potential drivers for asking questions; none of you know what you’re getting into yet. (3) LoriAz strikes me as being too intelligent to drive OTR for very long. I encourage people to continue to dump on her. It doesn’t seem to bother her too much and I find her replies immensely entertaining. (4) As usual, zigzag has it right; it’s doubtful that Lori is passive enough to accept the b/s that comes with the job. A lot of drivers will tell you that you have to develop the proper “attitude” in order to last in the business; what they mean is that you have to develop a taste for eating crap. Different companies flavor their particular brand of crap differently and some of you may find a flavor you like but the industry standard is that 80% of you won’t and will be out of the biz before the first year is over. Good luck to you all. (BTW, Gunny; didn't you get the word? The only good Marine is a submarine – Semper Fi). Answer: From what I read; she was "jumpped on" childishley and undiservingley and is due an apoligy by a lot of people. To me she just sounds a bit confused and can use some quality guidance and in-put by mature experienced drivers. An example of her confusion is this:About LoriAz: I have been employed in retail for the last nine years and i think about trucking often because of the time away from people who are driving me insane and the travel and money and i kinda like the idea of living in a truck and traveling which probably means i'm a little weird but i think it would be very private which i like. Found in her profile. And then she talks about wanting to team (which would deffinately include someone who would eventually be "driving me insane" and would not be "very private". Just give her some advice and stop pouncing on people like a bunch of Junior High students trying to fit in. And Lori; take anything said with a grain of salt. Use the info you feel helps you and ignore the rest...you'll only become what you desire. _________________________ Cover Your Cans People!!! _________________ _______________________________________ It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves. Bette Midler Answer: Lori is cool in my book. Her and I had a misunderstanding; I emailed her and it was straightened out right away. I've talked to her in chat and through email quite a lot and I think she's going to do fine. She's put up with a lot of crap already and hasn't resorted to a shooting spree, so I am sure a new brand of crap isn't going to kill her. She takes a pro-active approach to solving problems with people, and I think it will serve her well. Answer: I believe LoriAZ is someone who wants to learn more about a career in trucking that she is considering. And those of us who reply to her posts are trying to help her with this. She will learn that there is no reason to get angry with what anyone says in a post. This is an open forum, which means that anyone can respond with their thoughts and opinions. She may not like their thoughts or opinions, but that's life. You won't always like what others have to say. Understand that they are just trying to help in their own way. If she does not want the help, then why post? The most important thing about being successful in this "lifestyle" is attitude. A good attitude can make someone a success, and a bad attitude can be unsafe and ruin everything. There are literally countless people who one comes in contact with driving a truck, and they are often rude. A truck driver does not have much authority over other people either, so one has to learn how to maintain a positive attitude and let the jerks of life just disappear into the background. I feel this is the only way to make it in this business. My opinion based on experience. Answer: Now as I am not a truck driver and nor do I expect to persue it in the future I can not give Lori advice about this career she has chosen to persue. But I am in a somewhat nontraditional job for a woman and I know first hand what a female needs to survive in reality is still a male dominated field. A ton of patience and fortitude is needed. Also the ability to control ones anger is needed. And this is where the two posts I made to Lori were directed. To lose control of your anger and allow what a complete stranger on a BBS types push you into putting up the defense shields and reacting as the person that insulted her is NOT the way to go. If Lori can learn to roll with this on here then she will be able to have the emotional skills needed to face the opposition she will find on the road. Let's face it,she will be fighting a battle against some of the old school drivers that still exist out there that will try to push her buttons. Lori again, learn the control and always hold your head up high, and remember no matter what, you can do anything you want --> Best of luck to you! --> ****************************** "If you think that something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room." Answer: Hmmm I truly believed that her postings were fake! I figured it was just a new poster havin some fun.....Hmmmm I'll stop bein a smart A** to her and wait to see what happens...Dr Mike "I love You All!! Let Me See Your Hands" OZZY OSBORN Answer: I was probably the biggest A$$hole to her so I guess I will probably stop with everything and give her another chance (I mean I gotta be mean I'm a amateur WEC cagefighter) so Lori I am sorry, just start over with everything. Thats it thats all have a good day. --> Answer: Well Lori....... --> --> --> ....at least everyone's interested, heh? So I'll throw another bit of advice your way: Once you enter the real world of trucking, it's best to not position yourself as the focus of everyone's attention. I know I know, you're saying, "what did I do, I just asked a question..." zigzag should throw-in his two cents worth on "out of sight, out of mind". It's best not to have everyone watching and analyzing you out here. The moral of this tale is -- Don't argue with the answer to your question. Take the advice, ignore the advice. You have free will to do whatever you want. Just consider that you asked the question, solicited an answer, then argue with the response -- or at least gave yourself a reputation for doing this. Isn't arguing with the answers you don't like, rude? Most truckers think so, I think, and so will you once you become one. If you back yourself into a corner here at trucknet, it's common practice to abandon your old username and start over under a new idendity. You don't have to carry your old reputation if you don't want to. Not saying you should or want to do this -- just saying there's an alternative. Answer: I don't think I picked on her. I'll have to check later. --> "Caution: Door May Open" _________________ RC Universe Answer: --> Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
