Training Alternatives
Question:
Hi! Been reading lots of the posts about training pros and cons with company vs private. The school I finally settled on seems like it will be great for me. A little background first - I work for a company that is constantly downsizing and I feel the winds of change blowing my way. So instead of waiting to be laid-off, I'm starting to get the training and will be ready when the axe falls. Sometimes ya gotta pre-plan, don't ya know? That being said, Tri-State training in Palmer, TX has weekend classes. 8 weekends of training, no change in the requirements but spread out to accomodate those who are still working. Smaller classes too, which can be a great thing. I've read lots of good and bad about the different companies here. Fortunately, the recruiter I talked to from Roehl, was able to help me tremendously. He told me to put down as much of my military driving time as I could honestly remember and that would help get me in at a higher rate even though almost all of it was over eight years old (retired in 94). Sent all the paperwork in and they are evaluating it now, but I have a tentative hire already after I graduate from training in eight weeks. Newbie? Sure.. Been there numerous times. Doesn't hurt (much). Hopefully, I'll be able to keep an objective log and post it in this forum as to how well I think the weekend courses will meet my needs and prepare me for my choice of a new life. Cheers!! A friend of mine did that back in 88 when we were stationed at Ft. Hood in Killeen. He enrolled in the driving school up in Waxahatchie (I think) and drove back and forth each weekend til he was done. Worked out real good for him. Keep us posted on your progress. ******************************* "I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane!" They are actually located in Palmer with Waxahatchie being the closest town with a DPS testing station. And yes, I will keep the good folks here posted. I ride for those who can't!
