ok who was the poop on werner????
Question:
Yep I'm getting out of the trash bizz and going OTR I figure a year of driving thier junk and working my *** off all 50 lbs of it and staying out 16 hours here and there and being asked to fudge the old log book because they kept me out for 16 hours 95% of that can be considered driving that and nothing was ever fast enough I think I quit. So I called up werner and setting everything up. I havn't heard anything bad about them yet besides they keep you out but thats heard about every trucking company of course going through 6 weeks straight(thats with having 2 weeks cut off because of prior experience with Burlington) I guess I could get used to it. So lets here some good's and bad's of the company so I might have an idea of what to expect.

Answer:
Do an archives search here, at layover.com, and ooida.com; you should get plenty of information. BOL

Answer:
Hardest part I had about working with werner was the waiting for a trainer..Did my 3 day orientation in Allentown and there were 56 people waiting for trainers at the hotel, they took 15 of us and shipped us out to Indianapolis and within 24 hours we had a trainer.. Get the 8 weeks done and do yourself a favor...
TRY NOT TO TAKE YOUR DRIVER TEST IN INDIANAPOLIS.. I heard too many people fail there.. (2 out of 3).. I took my test in Lakeland, FLa. which by my standards was the easiest.. Very professional company if you asked me.. If it weren't for an accident I had I would still be with them...
There's nothing like getting near a scale, seeing your prepass hit green and watching everyone else have to go in while you fly by.. I really LOVED working there.. Just make sure you fill out all the information on your trip-pak and get them into drop boxes ASAP..The training process (8weeks), seems like forever but its not..
Not much else I can add except it's an awesome place to start, just keep your record clean, i.e. accidents/incidents.. You'll be there for quite a while if you like being a company driver..
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Answer:
Basically it is You work , they Pay you.
You will have good days and bad days , good loads , bad loads , run into other drivers who Love the company and those that Hate the company.
Werner is a well managed and operated company , they turnover the trucks on a regular schedule so they are basically all within 2 - 21/2 years old, trailers are a bit older some are getting "JUNK" status but they are upgrading. Recently opened a Canadian Division in Ontario Canada.
I drove for them years back as well as I was an O/O for a while I did ok with them.

Answer:
they suck, you will live throught it.I did. -->
Just go with the flow,it ain't burlington,it's now the werner way, just accept it and go with the flow, don't create waves.Keep quiet, get a truck assigned and remain as invisable as possable.
The company is full of snitches, watch what you say to people, see above, keep quiet.
Do whatever they say and always remember, when you have had enough and have to shut down,it don't matter if you still have hours, they can't make you drive.
Regulations
§ 392.3 Ill or fatigued operator.
No driver shall operate a commercial motor vehicle, and a motor carrier shall not require or permit a driver to operate a commercial motor vehicle, while the driver's ability or alertness is so impaired, or so likely to become impaired, through fatigue, illness, or any other cause, as to make it unsafe for him/her to begin or continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle.
They enlisted the Teamsters’ help after the company decided that it would no longer pay them hourly wages but compensate them based on mileage, which would have cut their income in half

Answer:
Storm,
Are you stating that Werner themselves test you (3rd party testing?) at Indianapolis and Lakeland Fl?
I've got some "Baltimoron" friends wanting to get their licence, but are hesitant to do it the conventional way--school, and DMV test. This might be their ticket.

Answer:
Ah GEE Ziggy Wiggy did ya have a bad time at WERNER like maybe they made you work?
But thats ok I kinow you love your new GIG , single axle MACK day cab working odd hours and sleeping over the wheel in REST STOP making MEGA $.

"orientation in Allentown and there were 56 people waiting for trainers at the hotel"
Their a great company, look they have them lined up for an opening.
"Ah GEE Ziggy Wiggy did ya have a bad time at WERNER like maybe they made you work?"
I probably drive more hours a week now than with werner. But give less of my time to the job and get more money per week.Nothing odd about my hours, just go in real early and if I burn out in the middle of the day,I can take a 30 minute nap to get recharged.
3 plus weeks out all the time, rates a ""suck"" in my book.If you look at the pay per hour,it really sucks.
They where the worst people I ever worked for.By the sounds of it,for this poster it will be an improvement over his garbage job.

He is talking about company road test before being upgraded from trainee to solo driver. He is not refering to any type of testing for someone to obtain a CDL.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.

I had a good talk with a Werner driver a day ago. For him it was a good company as he did not have a need to make very much money as his house was paid for and had very few bills. I see Werner as one of the better of the garbage training companies. For the ones that stay over a year are complete fools (same Swift SCN and a few others) considering there very sad pay package. A company that uses paperless logs should have a very aggressive pay package, I believe.

Thank You troy1000
I have a question,what does a new driver know?
All I knew was what I heard from other drivers.I now know most ain't a good source of information about most anything.
I left North American van Lines because it sucked and back than werner wasn't the poster child that billybigriggers picked on.Every one of their drivers I asked said it was a very good company.
Once there I heard over and over there all the same and once you show them you will stick around they will treat you better.
Most veterans drivers won't give a new driver any advice, just cut on them.Who will talk to a werner driver, other werner drivers and what kind of good advice you going to get from a guy that has spent years doing what you say not to do.
I had run with this guy Fred a few times while we where both with werner and than bumped into him and he was driving for Crete and him and another former werner driver where both telling me how much better it was at Crete,so I finally had enough and figuired what the hell, give it a try.On my last run with werner a long time werner driver is telling me what a stupid decission I'm making and I'm going to regret it,so who do you beleive,Fred who is on the new side to trucking or this grizzled old fellow thats been around for decades?
Freds advice was good.trucking was the way it should be the first few years with crete.
It's a shame that most of the people that could steer new drivers right, have retreated into their own little corner to stay away from all the nut cases and most new drivers just interact with the crazy people.Take swift, most just have turned their radio's off and don't even bother opening their mouths in truckstop,if somebody does find out they drive for swift, they will call them an idiot and if a new driver complains about anything, people call them a whiner.
Just not enough Freds out there to help somebody out and hook them up.Plus most drivers are head hunters now, something I always avoided when people asked about crete,I told them the facts and just told them to grab some crete drivers name and put it on the application if they do decide to call for one.Mr Ackile has enough money,so give somebody that needs it more than him, some of it.
these people that get to read trucknet have a great advantage, they can get real info, instead of wives tales from crazy people.
A millionaire truck driver told be the other day that JB Hunt is owned by CSX railroad.Damn he don't talk to the right crazy people,it's Santa Fe that owns JB Hunt according to the rest of the nut cases.

Answer:
Having run a Werner Wagon a couple of times I'll give you my take on them.
First off they don't (edited) foot around for the most part. My first run with them was as a newbie years ago. Orientation was ok and my trainer was GREAT. I learned so much and left training so safety conscious I was very impressed. I learned in training to build a working relationship with your fleet manager. Troy Noel was a great guy to work with. He kept me running and understood my need to get home. I had a great time with Werner but left for a local gig but was still very content.
After few years working for a local hauler I needed a job. Who did I call, YEP, Werner. Without question they welcomed me back. In the insuing 4 years I had seen some changes. Probably the most significant is they are very strict with the PLS (paperless log). Things I'd done before were not allowed. Another change is there seems to be more red tape in the system. Before you could call one person and get things resolved. Now there is voicemail hell and more hoops to jump through. A little frustrating at times but still responsive.
All in all I've been very please with Werner. Are they everything for everyone, NO! They are a really great place to start and sincerely care about your success. I'm sure others have had different experiences but mine has always been first rate.

Thank you all for the replies. Don't sound like to bad of a place and don't sound like they are going to go bankrupt anytime soon without telling people unlike BULINGTON MOTOR CARRIERS that still pisses me off. Can you believe that they had like 80 people in orientation when the **** hit the fan- Unbeleivable!!! Anyways thanks alot and I hope I have a good time with this one.

Answer:
Werner just ordered 300 Kenworth W900 and 100 Kenworth T600 tractors. I understand they are one of the top trucking companies utilizing information technology throughout their operation.
