haz-mat endorsement
Question:
Hi everyone I started studying for my Haz-mat endorsement. I know that it is a written test. What can i expect on this test. What part is most important. It seems to be a lot to know so is there anyone out there currrently preparing to take this test? Thanks again. Answer: Well, I've had the "TX" endorsements on my CDL since I first got it back in '92. Not much has really changed since then, except a few little things here and there. But the one that really gets my goat is that some states are doing background checks on anyone who either applies for the first time, or renews their haz-mat endorsement. You need to understand WHY you are going to get this: to be able to haul hazardous materials. The reason there's a test for it is simply because there is MUCH to know about hauling any type of haz-mat, and a 25 question test don't hardly prepare you for everything you'll need to know. What I'm saying is simply this: READ the entire manual. Get a copy of the latest Emergency Response Handbook, Hazardous Materials Compliance Pocketbook, and the FMSR Pocket book. Your carrier SHOULD give these to you, but you can also find them at most any truckstop. If you are loaded with Sodium Perborate, how are you going to know what this stuff is, what class it's in, and what's the procedure to follow in the event of an accident? This particular stuff is a class 5.1 oxidizer, and is nothing really serious. But there are rules that need to be followed with every single substance classified as a hazardous material, so whether it's a 5.1 oxidizer, or class A explosives, you will have definate rules that MUST be followed to transport them. YOU are responsible to make sure the shipper has properly labeled the material, and YOU are responsible for not going off a haz-mat route. Your test won't tell you everything, so use these manuals I've listed to help you THOROUGHLY understand what hauling haz-mat involves! And since 9/11, I wouldn't recommed you going across the scales with a placarded load wearing a towell around your head. Inspections of hazardous materials has increased greatly, thanks to CNN getting everyone all panicked that a truck is going to get flown through a building as our next terrorist threat. It simply means you will need to make sure you know exactly what you are doing at ALL times with ANY type of hazardous material in your wagon. Do it right and no one ever gets hurt and you stay out of jail. And haz-mat shouldn't be any different than hauling hot dogs or lettuce. You should always drive your truck like there's precious cargo back there anyway. There's just a few more rules to follow......... Good luck with the test. Answer: Since you are from IL I assume you will be taking the IL CDL exam for your hazmat. Given that assumption read the manual a few times and be sure you are able to answer all the questions found within each section easily. Then for practice you can go to layover.com and take the online practice tests offered there. Between the two you should be able to pass the test with no problems. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: You can do a search for HAZMAT Practice Test and it will come up with a practice test that you can take. Its 50 ? long. That is the one I used when I was studying for mine. It has just about the same ? as the real test that you will take. Answer: The company I drove for hauled alot of chemicals for Kodak.Anytime we picked up a Haz-Mat load there was a 800 number to call. You received your routing and all needed information. You still need to check your routing yourself and don't depend on info from dispatch. If you are caught off of a Haz-Mat route,it ain't pretty and any fines will be yours. Answer: I used this test site and just passed them all today. I read the Fl. CDL manual, and used these tests to practice. Piece of cake. Good luck to you. http://www.cristcdl.com./otc/ Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
