Let's go to Mexico and set up a bunch of taco stands
Question:
It's an excerpt from an opinion piece in Transport Topics, a publication of the ATA.It's in the Jan 13, 2003 issue. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Language barriers and red tape barricades may inhibit companies on both sides of the border from pursuing Nafta opportunities, but the potential benefits are too significant to be overlooked. Nafta offers carriers the opportunity to fill unseated trucks — and potentially at lower wages. With net profits for U.S. truckload carriers averaging less than 5 cents a mile, the 30-cent-per-mile differential between U.S. and Mexican pay rates should provide ample incentive for carriers to vigorously recruit qualified Mexican drivers. American carriers should be able to offer substantial wage increases to qualified Mexican drivers without approaching the inflated remuneration levels necessary to attract domestic drivers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer: Why dont we just stay here in the USA and set up drinking water stands out in the desert along the foot trails the illegals use. That way they can't come back and sue us for neglect. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. _________________ RC Universe Answer: You got to be kidding me.DE not In -Deflated Answer: I worked drill rigs in Mexico for almost three years. I have a valid Mexican Commercial Driver's license. The language barrier is the main thing that will keep Mexicans from over-running the US trucking market. Plus, if trucking companies think they can pay less to Mexicans while they drive here in the U.S.--well, those guys gotta eat too and Taco Bell in truck stops charges as much for a meal as most people make in Mexico in a day. Mexicans won't wreck the trucking industry here for drivers--it's already been wrecked by the drivers themselves. People who put up with the OTR crap, independents who cut each other's throats, drivers who refuse to organize into a viable national trucker's union--The "Mexican Threat" is nothing compared to what drivers already do to themselves. May you be well and happy! Answer: The language barrier is the main thing that will keep Mexicans from over-running the US trucking market. That hasn't been the case in the port areas and here in Chicago. The Mexican,Russian and Polish drivers get by without knowing the English language. People who put up with the OTR crap, independents who cut each other's throats, drivers who refuse to organize into a viable national trucker's union--The "Mexican Threat" is nothing compared to what drivers already do to themselves. Now that's a fact, they are their own worst enemy. You forgot Miami, Fl. Answer: "the 30-cent-per-mile differential between U.S. and Mexican pay rates should provide ample incentive for carriers to vigorously recruit qualified Mexican drivers. So the Mexican drivers actually pay the carriers so they can drive the trucks! Answer: ...says Prime Inc. is the best trucking operation for the year 2002 ? I feel like the TT people should be dispossessed right down to their undies, and left by the side of the road...just on sheer principle... _________________ JB Answer: I talked with a buddy in Tucson last night. The religious do-gooder ARE putting out water for the Mexican illegals. At one location a camera was mounted to record crossings. 320 people came across in 20 minutes... Remember the "license for bribes" scandal in Illinois, which came to light after a trucker killed a family of six kids? That driver was from Eastern Europe, couldn't speak English (or barely spoke it). I live in a town of about 62,000 in Northwest Indiana. I eat at a local Greek-owned restaurant occasionally. All of the workers are Mexicans. The commercial lawn-mowing services here employ many Mexicans. Those people manage to live on minimum wage, and probably send money home. I imagine they could bring the same approach (willing to live cheaply, and to endure hardship) to living on the road. Answer: so some one wants to work, someone sends his money back to his family, what is wrong with this , it amazing me to no end that people in the USA have a problem with people wanting to work. and to open up a taco stand in Mexico, that is the stupidest thing I heard of, see if your from different country and you go to another country you should start by using your own countries ethinic food, but sense the USA has no orginal ethnic food except the hamburger, you got to face it the other countries are way ahead of us on that, plus the people in the south of the border tend to have better family values than what you find here in the USA Answer: I haqve no problem with someone "supporting his family". Being against that would be like opposing apple pie. I believer, however, that he should do so in his country, where he created that family. I do have a problem with the fact that an illegal alien can come here, deliver a baby, and create an automatic American citizen thereby. I also have a problem with the idea of illegal aliens drawing Social Security benefits, which they can, under existing law. I also have a problem with the idea that children of illegal aliens must be provided a free education at the expense of US citizens. In fact, there is now a bill before Congress to require the free college education of the children of illegal aliens. I also have a problem with the fact that illegal aliens are entitled, by federal law, to mandatory emergency room coverage, without compensation to the hospitals or doctors or ambulance services; and if these services were compensated, that they would be compensated from the public treasury. I have a problem with Mexican trucks on US highways, for safety reasons and because they will further lower US freight rates and driver compensation to American drivers. I also have a problem that an open border with Mexico invites crossings by terrorists. Other than on those those few issues, I have to agree with you entirely. But, five years from now, when the trucks rolling by are driven by people willing to make 20 cents per mile to "support their families", and you can't find a job mowing grass at minimum wage, I hope I won't see any posts complaining about illegal immigration.
