Driver School
Question:
I am currently checking out schools in my Area (Dallas /FT. Worth) and I came upon International Truck driving schools at a nearby JR. College it is a 200 hr. course. I have not found anything good or bad on the internet about this school, if anyone knows anything about them let me know. I plan on paying for this myself without going through any companies. I don't like the ideal of owing someone I work for money right off the bat. Will this hurt me in any way with any of the companies or would they prefer I go through them. Gary R. Answer: I know this wont help you Garet but this os for those in Canada. Camerons Driving School in Edmonton, AB. I was living in BC at the time and went out to AB, and surrendered my BC license and got my learners in AB. Did the school and passed. Went back to BC. Surrendered my AB and got my BC back. I DID NOT do this because Alberta was easier to get a class one in. I did this because 5 drivers told me to go there. The best school I have ever seen. Excellent teachers. We had a sudent in our class that was just a little slow picking up on some of the material. He was not retarded or slow by any means, just having a hard time with some of the classroom stuff, and the teachers made sure he passed by giving him extra help until he understood the material. You dont see that all to often in the pay for services world. To them it is money money money, and wasted time is lost money. Cameron's Driver Education BUMP! Randy Travis - What was that? Patrick Swayze - A Mazda. From the movie Black Dog Answer: I would say that you are smart not signing any contract that would bind you to a certain company before you even know what you're getting into. This really won't hurt you at all in the sense of employment with a company, as a matter of fact, many of them offer tuition reimbursement. Just keep the paperwork from the school that shows how much you paid and take it with you to company orientation. Check with the company you plan to work for to see if they offer reimbursement. They usually dole it out at the rate of about $100 per month up to maybe $5,000. Check with the company, and you may be able to get your investment back! Answer: Go to truckschoolsusa.com and look for the info about what to look for in a driving school/program. This is the minimum you really want to have the most options for hire after school. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: My brother just told me about some guy who will give lessons and help you get your CDL using a dump truck and a low-boy trailer. He said its about 4 or 5 hundred dollars. Do you guys think someone would get hired if all he's driven was a small dump truck? "Men are disturbed not by things, but by the views they take of them." Epictetus Answer: If all you want to do is drive a small dump truck, sure that should work just fine;but if I'm not mistaken most companies require at least 160 hours of combined classroom and track training and proof of graduation from an accepted school for a newbie position. If OTR work is what you desire I think you would be wasting your money.Just my opinion. The Governor. Answer: As far as trucking schools go, they are like college. Generally, the better one you go to, the better your employment prospects. Now, a truck driving school should be PTDI certified and have a reputation of major carriers hiring students from there. You might not want to work for any of these major carriers, but it is good to know that you could. If just "some guy" teaches you enough to pass the CDL test, you will not be approved by most companies' insurance policies, so will not get a job. And what's the CDL you have worth if nobody will hire you? Answer: When I was taking my tests today the lady at the counter said that with all the endorsements I could qualify for an examiners job. Working for the state is a pretty good job. It starts out at $16/hr "Men are disturbed not by things, but by the views they take of them."
