Pre-Trip Inspection
Question:
I am from Wisconsin and we are allowed to use a pre-trip memory guide during the road skills exam. What other states do?

Answer:
but only if the examiner allows it. Some do some don't.
If you do it the same way every time though you won't need one after about 5 or 6 times on average.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.
Answer:
Florida allows it. They have one printed in the manual.

"Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of all who threaten it"

Answer:
Oklahoma, Used to....I'm not sure if they still do or not.

Answer:
Last I knew, Louisiana doesn't allow printed "guides". An examinee has to know (memorized) it cold.
Use guides for practice, but get the pre-trip memorized is my suggestion.
Some companies (my experience), during orientation, have a potential driver do a pre-trip without any aids. BOL

Answer:
I took mine in Tenn. with an outside examiner, not a DMV officer. No memory guide allowed.

Answer:
While I don't know what states do or don't allow "Guides" I think it's foolish not to use them.
Airline pilots, enginneers, and many others use a pre=printed checklist. WHY NOT TRUCKERS?
Memory is fine, but it is not flawless.

Answer:
Truckers do. Your vehicle inspection report, if it is the long form, has just about everything in it that you need to check during a pre/post trip inspection.
But I do understand where you are coming from. Pilots also go through constant and extensive training in the operation of their craft, skills retesting, must apprentice, co=pilot, etc before they earn the right to actually be in charge.

Answer:
Ohio won't let you use a guide for the test.
When I went for my company test he said we would do a "REAL WORLD" vehicle inspection. I must have done ok 'cause they hired me
Life's a Journey, not a Destination....Steven Tyler

Answer:
Michigan allows a guide but if you use one they check it to make sure you haven't made notes on it. If you go through a five wk. program as I did and religiously do your pretrips by the training materials provided, You won't need one.

Answer:
hey tkachuk, are you from mi? i'm from warren just north of det. i wanted to know if you went to driving school here in mi. if so where and how was it? thanks, gatorhawk

Answer:
The Evergreen State allows a very basic Memory Aid that is in the CDL Drivers guide, its all on just one page.
Thanks for reminding me, starting school Monday and was sweating having to know every nook and cranny of the truck.
Slow down and Take it easy.

Answer:
Gaterhawk.......I went to Wayne County Community College Driving School. It was a 5 wk. program. I felt it was a good program, but I'm a newbie, matter of fact I start my 1st job with Watkins and Shepard soon as the bus gets me there. I'm leaving Sunday 23rd, tomorrow.......weather permitting I suppose. Cost 2500.00$. besides the class room time I got about 300 miles behind the wheel in that amount of time. I'm still a white knuckler. Ive got a lot of good advise from this site over the last week or so. See ya on the road.
wish me luck and pray for me..........tkachuk

Answer:
good luck tkachuk hope everything goes well.keep us up to date on this board. by the way did the school offer any night or just weekend classes? thanks

Answer:
To use a manual in Kentucky or Indiana. If you dont know it.. Best I can tell you is check everything on the truck, You cant fail for checking too much.. Dont forget tread depths. I know Kentucky will fail you quick if you dont say them.
