Question:
i am a female who fell madly in love with a driver an he took me with all the time was teaching me to drive when he suddenly died on oct 30,o2 i miss being out there had a wonderful time but cant seem to get financed through any school past all their test with a 95 or better avg will someone help me to get them really need some advice this is in my blood i am 34 yrs old he was 36 an drove for 14yrs i want to do this toni Answer: Maybe you should go to a Company Sponsored School. CRST & Schneider, are two that I know of off the top of my head that have their Own School. If you attend "Their" school they will pay for your schooling..... however..... You Must Sign a 1-2yr Contract.(stating that you will stay employed with them for 1-2yrs.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Or..... Check with your local Employment Office or WorkForce Office & inquire about Government Funded Programs.(the Government pays for your school & you do NOT have to Re-Pay & you do Not have to sign any Contracts with Any carrier.) Answer: If you are unable to raise the cash to pay for school yourself then you have only two real options left. The first is a company sponsored program. Swift, USXpress, PAM, USA, and Schnieder are the ones that I know that either have thier own schools or will finance you to attend a school of their choice in return for garunteeing them employment for 1 and somwetimes 2 years. In some cases you still must come up with anywhere from $250-$500 down plus money for food in order to attend. As these programs change all the time based on a particular carriers need your best bet is to call the companies I have mentioned, and the ones Choclt mentioned and find out exactly the qualifications, requirements, etc. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: Hey, Toni... you might check the phone book for state-run aid programs.... some agencies have cash available to help those out of work get the training necessary to secure employment. Same may be true at local community colleges that offer CDL training. Just a thought. Answer: Sorry I forgot to mention option number two. Check with the state employment office, state job training office, etc. about the possibility of recieving a grant to attend driving school. Also if you are a native american or a veteren there may additional programs available to you. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: P.A.M. and USA both go through the C1 Training Center in Indianapolis, IN for their school. Star Transport and Werner, and Roehl used to go through there as well, I dunno if they also do or not at this point, as it was almost 3 years since I went there. Requirement used to be 1 year, or shell out $3,000 if you didn't stick there for that year. But yes, that is your best option at this point (a company sponsored school). I wouldn't recommened going through PAM or USA, though, as C1's program is only 12 days, not really enough time to get "decent" training behind the wheel. =============================== I'm not a truck driver, I'm a professional tourist! Answer: Depending on your particular circumstances you may qualify for free training through the Workforce Councel or what ever it's new name is. It doesn't take much to qualify. Their located at or near the unemployment and job offices. They'll give you info and let you know if you qualify. Of so it is free. Good Stuff "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of all who threaten it" Answer: Hey Welcome to the club! I too am in the process of searching where to start since my credit isn't all that great. Here is a list of companys that train you and then you go and work for them for x amount of years: Swift http://www.swifttrans.com/ CRST http://www.crst.com/ USXpress http://www.usxpress.com/ PAM http://www.pamt.com/ USA http://www.usa-truck.com/ Schnieder http://www.schneider.com/ Stevens Transport http://www.stevenstransport.com/ CR England http://www.crengland.com/ Roehl company site http://www.roehl.net/ Roehl Driver Training http://www.drivertraining.net/ As far as who to go with you'll just need to search postings here and hear the pro's and cons of each. Too bd there aren't any perfect trucking companys. From what I've heard alot of the ones I have listed are decent and it really is a different experience with each person. Your very best bet is to go to your local state employment office and check on training. Most states offer financial aid and 99% of the time you don't need to pay them back. It's better thsi way so you can just go to school and choose who to drive with instead of getting stuck with one company << Answer: I would greatly recommend AGAINST going to one of the company driving schools. Most (not all) of them are simply looking to put butts in seats. You may end up driving a truck, but trust me, you will not like the situation you will end up in. Your best bet is to go to a community college that offers driving training. I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but if you can't afford the schooling, you cannot afford to go trucking. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way. Answer: I went to Old Dominions training program and have now been driving with them for about 4 months. I am loving it. If you do a search on "Old Dominion" you can find a couple of threads detailing my experiences with them. Good luck. Wish you the best.
