Team training with Swift question
Question:
Hello out there, My wife and I are going to start driving as a team (both newbies) and it looks like it will be with Swift(the best fit for us). I was told by them that as soon as I was done with my 8 weeks that I would be able to start trainning the wife myself. I was just looking for some verification on this from some of you that have been there done that, just don't want to finish my 8 weeks then find out it's not the case.
thanks for the help

Answer:
Most carriers that I know of require 6mnths to 1yr exp before you are allowed to "train" your spouse.
I've Never drvn for Swift, so I Don't know about Their policies.
Anything is possible with Swift....so, I'm Not surprised if what you say is True.

Answer:
that was the way it was. As soon as you were upgraded you could train your spouse to run with you as a co-driver but had to have 6 months to actually become a trainer. Your wife must have her CDL before you can train her. She can get this for no cost through the Swiftr school in Phoenix though you will have to pay for her food and possibly her lodging at the Swift hotel (dorms) while she is there.
At least this is the way it was 3 or 4 years ago.

Answer:
Thanks for the info. Right now they have a deal going that will get us trained in a local school. The plan is to go through CDL school together and then she would wait for me to finish my 8 weeks of trainning then join me. I just wanted to make sure this was true, not that a recruiter would ever tell a lie
Also thanks to everybody out there this board is great with tons of good info.

Answer:
Is there some reason you two can't go through training at the same time and then start running together during your 2nd 4 week phase?
It's not something I am needing to know but just though I would put that idea in your head since you said you were going through school together.

Answer:
From my understanding the only way to do that would be cdl school together, seperate for the first 4 weeks with different company trainers then come back together for second 4 weeks. This option sounded like an logistical nightmare waiting to happen ie, after cdl school I get a trainer right away and she has to wait for a few weeks which from my research is VERY possible. That's are main reasoning anyway.

Answer:
"seperate for the first 4 weeks with different company trainers then come back together for second 4 weeks" What more do you want. That would be the absolute best way to do it. Why would she have to wait for a trainer, don't make sense? Doesn't really matter. Six months is barely enough time behind the wheel to become a trainer let alone when you first become solo.
These companies are getting desperate by letting you train at 6 months or after training, ever wonder why?
I got to quit driving before somebody kills me.

Answer:
I would see her having to wait for a trainer is if she insists on having a female trainer.

Answer:
I agree 6 months to trainer is scary I hope I get one with a few years under his belt. Training 4 apart and then comming back together is fine but for us her waiting works out better and that's the way Swift likes to do it, I'm not even sure they will pick up the tab for her training being it will be 2 months before she starts driving, if not we'll pay for it ourselfs no big deal. I'm sure the reason they alow you to train in 6months is because of their huge turnover. Recruiter told me their recruiting goal this year was 30,000 drivers.
I got the idea of waiting for a trainer due to the fact that every first hand account I've read there was up to 2 weeks of wait time involved. Granted alot of those are a year old or more and it may be different now but I'm budgeting for 3 weeks down time(no pay checks) just in case.
When we first started looking into this lifestyle being able to train together was at the top of our list and very few companys do this. The only ones I'm aware of are SNI and covenent with swifts way close enough. The second was our third team member(a boxer)so out goes SNI. From what we've heard of covenent and where we live lead us to Swift. When I started this I just wanted to make sure what the recruiter was telling me was the truth I didn't want to finish my 8 weeks of training and find out that it wasn't true thats all.
Thanks for all the input
