Has anyone driven for Central Refrigerated Services?
Question:
Hi everyone,
I started school on Monday, and am very happy I did - it already looks like Schneider may hire me for a dedicated rout! I am so hoping they will, because I really want to be home with my wife and 3-year-old as much as possible.
Anyway, have any of you driven for Central Refrigerated Services? A recruiter visited our school today, and it seemed like a good place. 10 to 14 days out, and 2 days at home. Dispatch from home, and a truck is assigned to you for the whole time. But I want to hear it from you drivers, or I wont believe it!
Thanks for all of your help
James

Answer:
I'm Glad you asked.....
That's a carrier I've been curious about, myself.
A few wks ago I stopped at a trkstp along my route & saw a Central Refr Drvr that I wanted to talk to, but....
He was sitting in his trk with the front end Torn Off his Trk. (it looked as though someone did Not Swing Out Far Enough when they pulled Out & took off his front end.)
I had stopped at that trkstp about 3hrs earlier & his trk was Not like that.(it was about 5:30am when I stopped the 1st time & the parking lot was FULL & his trk was Not like that.)
So, apparently it happened when drvrs started heading out....whoever hit him Obviously was Not paying Attention.
I didn't think that was a good time for idle chit-chat, so I kept going.

Answer:
Like the Phoenix, Central Refrigerated arose from the ashes and ruins of Dick Simon Trucking, same trucks, same trailers, same management, so beware. Just stay away from the California State Capital building.
Answer:
Central Refrigerated Lines in owned by Central Freight Lines which is owned (at least partially) by, drum roll please..........Swift!!!
I personally have nothing against Swifty but I know quite a few people do, so I thought I'd warn in advance.

Answer:
Thanx for the info shadetree & 18wheels.
I'm sooooo Glad you all told me that about Swifty being in charge.

Answer:
Thanks 18Wheeler, Choclit Snda and Shadetree58 - I had read the other night that it was owned mostly by some guy named Moyers I think - the one who has majority stake in Swift, the defunct Dick Simon, and some others. I guess drivers don't like this guy or his companies? That's kind of why I wanted to hear from a CRS driver - how it was to drive for CRS.
Last night I was thinking "but the recruiter was so nice, and the company sounds so family-friendly" and then I caught myself and thought "duh! That's what he gets paid for!"
CRS drivers speak up! Let us know for sure!
Take care everyone
