Where should my next job be?
Question:
Ok, I've put in my time. In May I will have completed one year solo at Werner. Actually Werner has been good to me. I have been driving the Midwest Regional route, my dispatcher has been great, good miles, I make the mileage bonus every month (8,500 for Regional) and home time every week if I choose. Usually I stay out 2 weeks at a time. I currently make .26 -.28 cents per mile depending on the length of my trip. In May that will go up another cent. My bonus averages about $120 extra per month. My driving record is clean and before this year I drove truck (Class B) for 5 years until I was laid off. If I stayed with Werner I would expect to make $36,000 next year. Should I stay or should I go? How much more can I expect to make somewhere else? I like the Midwest region, not too interested in driving out West. If I go, where should I look for my next job? I live in Toledo, OH and local terminals include Yellow, RTS, Roadway Express, USF Holland, and many smaller companies. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Answer: like you are pretty happy where you are. That being the case you MAY want to consider staying, or find a carrier that offers close to what you have now with more money. If it ain't broke, don't fix it............ Answer: $36,000 is not all that great when you consider the time on the road and the road expense that you encounter. I commend you on your record and if I was looking around, I would certainly be looking at all the LTL companies. Roadway and all the union carriers would certainly be first choice, but to be realistic about it, you probably will not land a job with them. But check with the non-union LTL companies. Overnite, American Freightways(Now Fed-X Freight),Estes, Conway, Old Dominion, Averitt, Watkins, any of these would certainly beat what you have now. Answer: Thanks to Choclit I'd add RL Carriers to Nocounts list. They seem to have a decent package and openings plus expansion. Mike Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
