Driver's Legal Plan... ?
Question:
I just completed my 2nd week of school on 1-31-03(AIT in PHX) and we were shown an infomercial about a company called Driver's Legal Plan. I must admit that on the surface it appears to be worth the $12/mo. they charge - but I'd like to know from anyone who's actually used/needed their services, the quality of the services they provided, and I'd also like to know if there are any other companies that offer a similar service. Any and all feedback concerning this topic is greatly appreciated. Be safe out there... Answer: I used to belong to a service called Open Road. It cost about the same if I remember right and covered not only me but my wife as well in both the truck and our personal vehicle. We did have to use them once in order to post bond on a traffic ticket in New York State that my wife got and to hire an attorney to fight the ticket. The attorney cost would have been around $150 but Open Road pickd up the entire cost. In my opinion the cost was worth it. I am sorry I let my memebership slip when I left the company I was working for when I first heard of them. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Answer: I have used and it has been very helpful not just for a ticket but they will refer you to other lawyers for other things not just tickets Answer: It's kind of like rador detectors. If you run fast, you need it! Indiana RoadRunner; hasn't needed either for 8 to 10 years now! $12.00 a month x 10 years can pay any other thing that may go wrong! Answer: If I'm not mistaken...I think The Drivers' Legal Plan is affiliated with Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc. I do know that Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. is an Excellent service.(I've had Pre-Paid for YEARS and I'm MORE than Happy & Pleased with them.) Open Road, is another good one.(they are affiliated with Pre-Paid Legal) What ever you do...Stay Away from that TVCrap. There are a few posters & LEOs on this forum that will be the First to tell you that ANY Pre-Paid Legal service is a Waste of time & Money, but... All I can say is....The Plan & Service that I've had for the past 12yrs for the CMV plan & the past 20yrs for private vehicle coverage has worked WONDERS for ME. I can NOT speak for any one elses experiences....but for ME I'll continue to use it. Who knows...maybe if/when I ever do have a Negative experience with the service I'll change my mind. Past Posts about Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.(click here) http://www.pplsi.com Answer: If you don't do anything illegal you "Shouldn't" Need any kind of Legal Service. But, as we all know...sometimes things happen even to the best of us.(besides, it's Not just for tickets....they help with a variety of things....everything from looking over contracts to paperwork for adopting a child & everything in between.) Answer: I think their a good idea. I like Open Road. You never know when something unintentional can happen. I got a third lane violation in Georgia. Georgia State Law say's all trucks over 6 wheels must use the two right lanes. I was in the third. The right lane had a sign in front of me saying right turn only. Thought it was ok, it wasn't. Luckily with a couple phone calls I got it reduced to a equiptment violation, mirror. It stays off my license that way. If they didn't change it easily I may have gotten a lawyer. Prepaid would have been cheaper in that case. I try hard not to get tickets but dumb things happen. That was a dumb thing and I was lucky and smart. Never just pay a ticket. Prepaid would make it less costly if need be. Open road was willing to help even though I wasn't a current mamber. I would have had to sign up and they would've supplied a lawyer for $200.. May be the regular lawyer fee, I'm not sure. Good Stuff "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of all who threaten it" Answer: Thanks for the feedback... it's greatly appreciated. Be safe out there!
