When is the best time to submitt applications to employers?
Question:
Just finished all my written tests to get my
Permit incuding all 6 endorsements...on my first
attempt with no school coaching.. Plan on starting school the third week in February.
The school I will be attending requires that
all written tests be completed before starting
school.
Checked out one school and they said they would
"get me through the written tests".. Didn't choose that school, it looked kind of shady!
When should I start applying to several Over the Road Companys so I can get letters of Pre-Hire?
Onramp does it in on the Ice, slush and snow..

Answer:
Start submitting applications on your first day of school. Some companies will take 3-4 weeks to process an application from a student driver, and you want to be sure to get as many pre hires as you can by the time you graduate. That way you can choose which company to go with and can get started within a week of graduation.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.
Answer:
It depends on the school you are going to. If it is a short 2-3 week school then send them off when you start. If you are going to go to a 4-8 week or longer school you should wait until the last couple of weeks. If you send them in right away and have 6 weeks to go before graduation they may either be ignored or just lost in the shuffle. Most prehire you get will be dependant upon graduation of the school.
I've done some on-line apps and have had responses the next day and a couple of days later. Never more than a week with some bigger companies.
It will be to your benefit to have the companies send you their apps.. From experience on-line apps. tend to get lost and are not as easy for recruiters to read. A completely filled out app. will not be as likely to be ignored. Some of the companies get 100's of applications a week. Hand written properly filled out apps. along with copies of any needed documentation will go a lot farther.

Answer:
I stand corected, when I went to school we had so many trucking companys coming in at the last 2weeks that we handed them a filled out app right then and there.I filled out an app here at trucknet about 3yrs ago and EVERY major carrier was calling or sending info pacs within 2 days!I did have alot of experience though so I guess you should send them out sooner.
