Wheres a good school?
Question:
Im interested in learning to drive. Thought about CR England but heard bad things about them.. Should I pay for school then hire on with someone.. Will they hire a new driver??? I could use some advice. Thanks

Answer:
Helps to know where you are for someone to give you advice like that. If thats Salem, Or. there is Probably a Western Pacific Truck school somewhat close. They have a few schools on I-5. If its a different Salem, say so. I wouldnt recommend CRE for any reason. If you are low on funds and high on debt, good luck in trucking. First few months you'll starve.

Answer:
In Minnesota, hands down is where I attend. It's a four-month course (about 600 hours), and the instructor covers everything and really cares. He's great. The course is great (only $2100.00.)
It's at Alexandria Technical College, Alexandria, MN.

I highly recommend NEI Truck Driver Training School out of North Charleston,S.C. Thats where I got my training at.Training only last for 3 weeks and you get tested right at school. They finnance your training and help you get a job with a company that will pay back your school cost. They provide free place to stay also.I had 8 jobs waiting on me before I even got out of school. The instructors are great to work with to,contact Rick or David Neilson to see about getting started.Let them know that Kenneth R. Pearson told you about this great school.

Answer:
must concur w/chocolate about goin to a PTDI school. Also if you have the ability to pay for a school,DO IT as this gives you more freedom if the company you hire onto just dont fit then you can leave and go elswhere without owing the company that trained you a year or 2 or whatever amount they are puttin in those "free training" contracts these days.
Good Luck

Answer:
watch out for free training. you are signing up to work with a company you know nothing about. pay something and go to a school. there you can listen to many companies with an educated guess. check out this school. they have a satisfaction guarantee.. http://www.isothermal.cc.nc.us/truck/

YES!!!
Programs like England's are for those who can't afford to pay for their own school, and in exchange for helping you out (which by the way, they DO make you pay for anyway after you're driving) you're stuck working for them for a couple years.
Western Pacific is a good, established, PTDI qualified school. All the big carriers hire from them, especially Werner and Swift. I think their closest campus is in Portland. Other locations in Washington and California.
