SHAFFER ORIENTATION.....
Question:
Just got back home from orientation.....2 days of classroom covered all the basics you would need to know, they get you subs and chips for lunch and you stay in this really nice Holiday Inn (they give you $10 coupons for the restaurant every night too....covers some of the meals on menu), food is a bit expensive. Don't forget your Bathing Suit....has indoor pool/hot tub. If you don't have them you have to pay for pulp thermometer, lock, kingpin lock, and 2 loadlocks.....they will take it out of your checks in 4 payments or so, comes to $180 if you need all of it. This is common for other reefer companies too. My stay got extended because the drug test took an extra day and half to get back (not companies fault though), then the truck they assigned me had some problems right away but shop was pretty quick in getting all of them fixed. BTW.....Cyanide...your welcome for the $1,000 referral......just mail me half of it.....hehe just kidding I appreciate all your help and you deserve it (I will take a big steak dinner when I see you though ). Truck Number is ..... #82348 I got a little older truck than everyone else in my class (290000 miles), is a 2000 Century....most of the available trucks were 2001 or 2002 Centurys with about 500000-100000 miles on them.....but is okay it works good now, and hopefully I can get a newer one fairly quick then Picked up first load at Hershey in Palmyra,PA at 300pm Friday, then 3 hour drive here home for weekend, have to deliver at Eckerd Drug in Charlotte,NC at 1100am Monday, 475 loaded/30 empty miles first run..... So far so good......will try to keep you posted! GREG - a.k.a. Married Man "Hakuna Matata...Means No Worries" Answer: oooops type....meant 50,000 miles to 100,000 miles for the trucks on last post. BTW....am running Northeast Regional, means out 5 days, home 2 days....34 cents per mile / 36 per mile if in the 11 northeast state region (MD south to PA west to ME north). GREG - a.k.a. Married Man "Hakuna Matata...Means No Worries" Answer: with only 290,000 miles on it. WOW. My 2000 has 465,000 on it and counting. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. _________________ Answer: Good for you. That 20% of load job (so-called job) you had for a while there sounded like a pretty lousy experience. Glad to hear you got on with some better folks and a better job for you -- finally! Answer: Yes part of the Crete family of companies that pay very well. However anycompany that does not pay to run the turnpikes out east is off my list of companies that I would ever run for, GOODLUCK. Answer: tolls,no ohio or indiana Troy1000 Girard(youngstown)ohio to Russell Ill.(I-94 wi line) 450 miles 9 hours on back roads,50mph average or averaging 60mph on toll road is 7.5,if you don't get bothered in Ohio or caught in Chicago traffic 450 at .41cpm=$184.50 or $20.50 per hour at 50mph,even at .34cpm it's $17.00 per hour. seeing as how a crete/shaffer driver will spend less than 5% of their driving time on this route across northern Ohio an Indiana and the company pays better than many others,I don't see it as a good reason to avoid them, when other companies will have some other catch. After reading Cyanides post about time spent at shippers and receivers, most other companies will screw you out of many more hours at docks. They enlisted the Teamsters’ help after the company decided that it would no longer pay them hourly wages but compensate them based on mileage, which would have cut their income in half http://www.teamster.org/03news/hn_030110_1.htm _________________ TruckNets Jobs.Truck.Net Online Application Click here Answer: Good luck, TFJ! de KJ5KX Answer: Welcome to the family brother. I drive for Crete S.E. Regional, been with crete for 4 years and been driving a truck for 19 of them. I am at top pay and drive a 03 model Century. I tell you what I'm very picky about who I drive for and I can't complain at all about Crete. I think you will be very happy with Shaffer. Oh by the way I'm out of the Marietta terminal in GA. And Troy1000 if you read this post if driver is pressed for time and dispatch knows you are they will let you run the IND and OH pike and will reimburse you. Brian Answer: THANK YOU!!! You caught me off guard with that about the referral thing, but believe me, it will really help out with the bill I got from Santa Claus last month -->. I'll be looking for you after I come back out next week and get in that area. Definitely have to hook up. B.T.W., dinner will be on me...you like tuna sandwiches with vegetable soup? Ha-ha-ha Carlo 82682 "Pain is weakness leaving the body." "Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat." Answer: send me half of the half,I started this chain of events --> This stuff is what trucknet should be,drivers helping each other. It's good to see somebody post the whole story, instead of something like this company is great,I get 13,000 miles every month. That is such a vague statement and don't help anyone decide if it's for real or not. It's to bad more people don't take a little time each month to come back and inform the rest of the people here, how it's going. Cyanide I hope you land one of those gravy runs in and out of the house soon --> They enlisted the Teamsters’ help after the company decided that it would no longer pay them hourly wages but compensate them based on mileage, which would have cut their income in half http://www.teamster.org/03news/hn_030110_1.htm _________________ TruckNets Jobs.Truck.Net Online Application Click here Answer: Half to you, half to Greg = Carlo 0 Don't think I'll ever have a gravy (dedicated) run here unless I relocate along I-70 or I-80. My fleet manager did mention several months ago that in the future I may stand a very good shot at getting on the WalMart fleet running out of the Maclenny/Baldwin D.C. about twenty miles from here but not getting my hopes up. Just happy to be where I'm at and that things are working great for me. But if the opportunity arises to get on that fleet...the .02 pay cut would be worth it with the miles they get -->! Carlo 82682 "Pain is weakness leaving the body." "Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat." Answer: You're quite welcome for the referral Carlo, like I said appreciate the info. Been here 3 weeks now miles are good this time of year (2,200 ave.), and like i said have been home 2 days each wknd and at least once thru the week. I'm sure it will pick up....as far as the reefer goes I've been to several customers and had lots of drop and hooks, but the most I've waited so far to load/unload was 2 or 3 hours......of course I'm sure it won't always be this perfect. I got home tonite about 10pm and my load delivers tuesday at 8am in winchester (80 miles)....great home time again GREG - a.k.a.
