need advice on getting started
Question:
I have a f-350, and looking at hauling a 4 car hauler, do I need a class B, or is my regular Calif. license good enough? And what does it take to start your own buss. or contact someone to haul for? Any help would be great.

Answer:
If a cop stops you with all those cars on your back..You better have a class b or be able to prove those cars are all yours. hahahaha
In any event you need to make sure your vehicle is registered to haul that much gross weight and the trailer needs to be rated for the weight on it. Im sure there's a few other considerations regarding the mechanical requirements.
To start a business: There's a lot of info to present if you do it right. You need to check with an insurance company, the DOT, the State, the Bank, an accountant(versed in trucking & business planning), a lawyer(versed in trucking & business planning & contracts ),cash carrying customers.
I'm positive there's people here that can help you when they get the chance in their schedules to answer you here.
Good luck!

Answer:
Bob,
I've been looking into the same thing myself. Here in Colorado they have a CDL Class A "special" for pickup trucks pulling freight trailers in a commercial capacity.
The other thing you will need is your interstate authority (lots of info. here on that), which basically amounts to getting the public liability insurance in order to qualify for the interstate authority.

Answer:
over in the trucking authority section, the O/O section and maybe the legal section to get a better idea of what you are looking at.
Your best source of infomation should be the DOT office in your state however. In order for them to help you though you will need to know the weight of your truck, trailer, over all length of the unit when hooked together, and how much weight you plan on hauling. Then they can probably tell you exactly what the liscensing reuirements are for what you want to do. These factors plus the area you are running in will effect the response and requirements you need to do it legally.
Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe.
