Concerns about DOT Physical
Question:
Got this coming up for school. Can anyone tell me a typical cost range for a DOT physical? Today, the doctor said it was going to cost over $250, plus hospital charges for a barrage of tests and other work. The first time we called, they said it would be between $60 - $80, now they're talking all this hospital stuff. --> I thought DOT physicals were outpatient-type affairs, performed in the doctor's office? What's up with that? de KJ5KX Answer: I, or rather the bus company I drive for, paid $70.00 for one about two weeks ago. They are fairly straight forward, as far as what is involved. For the most part, what they are looking for is anything disqualifying, such as loss of a limb, heart defects, etc.. $250.00 sounds like an awful lot to pay. Ask some drivers in your area where they go and what they pay. Try the phone book and shop around, too. Hey...you lookin' at me? _________________ "Nobody squeals like Ned Beatty." -Arthur Spooner Answer: I think you should shop around for a Doctor that actually knows what a DOT examine consists of. Maybe this one thinks it's company or insurance paid. Shouldn't cost more than an office visit. Mike _________________ Mike Answer: $45 for my last one; took one for a company once; they billed $70 to the company. Took about 45 min., 10 min. waiting for the doc. $250+ for tests? Did you tell him it was for trucking, or airline pilot? Every city has clinics that do this. ___________________________ Interested in how the NAFTA court system works? http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB65/ _________________ " I can hire half the working class to kill the other half." Jay Gould __________________________ This post coming to you live, from Jesus Land !!! Answer: should cost little more than an office visit. The only "lab" work that needs to be done is a simply urine dip to check for sugar and or protiens in your urine which may indicate diabetes or a few other problems. The cost shouldnt be over $70 for the exam. Only two things I know of are infinite. The numbers may not be exactly accurate but I didn't drop more than $90-$100 bucks overall for the physical and the drug test. The drug screen looks for anything on their list of no-no drugs. If you take a anti-depressant or anything prescribed just make sure you tell them or list it. Many prescribed drugs can show up as something on the no-no list even though the individual drug doesn't contain a no-no ingredient. Better to be upfront than to get a rejection days later because you didn't list one to consider. Before you go in and while youre waiting, drink a lot of water to flush your system. Oh, and don't use a mouthwash or anything that has alcohol in it before you go in. PS. Uturn, I'm up in your neck of the woods all the time to work on cop radios and some other commercial users radios. Answer: Thanks for all the good replies! I didn't think $250 sounded right. Oh, btw, is there a particular form I need to get for this, or is it something the Dr. would have in the office? Thanks again, all! de KJ5KX Answer: I just talked to a clinic near me, (the only one within 100 miles of me that does DOT physicals,) and was givin a quote of $90.00, including the drug test. I was told I could get this cheaper at the CDL mills in Tucson, but the savings would be lost when you count the travel. I was concerned because another doctor had told me it would cost $800.00 for him to do it. All the clinics I have ever gone to had all the paperwork there. You will need Adobe Acrobat reader in order to read the file. It is 9 pages long should you decide to print it off. Only two things I know of are infinite. Nothing fancy, but it all worked just fine. They are located in a hotel which is part of a truck stop. http://truck.net/abms/ Answer: All of the D.O.T Physicals that I've ever had done cost between $40-$60.(that Includes the Drug Test.) All of the Physicals & Tests were paid for by the carrier. Answer: $70 for me Answer: The last one I paid for was about $50, but that was a few years ago. Call the school and find out where they send students. It might be included in your truck school tuition at a clinic under contract with the school, so check with them first before laying your money down.
