Need some advice!!!!
Question:
i am looking to jump ship. I currently drive flat bed, looking to get something regional or dedicated. my wife is not at all interested in me being gone all the time. i only have 6 mos. exp. though. Does anyone know of any companies that will look at me and not have to go back through orientations? I have nothing negative anywhere. Answer: ...you could try Dart Transit. They've got a terminal in Dallas and hire company drivers for their Fleetline(?) division. I'm not sure about the particulars, I think they just did some shuffling with company names and divisions. They haul dry freight and advertise regional and dedicated 'opportunities'. The best advice I can give you is to maintain that "nothing negative anywhere" thing you got going on. With that, and maybe a little more experience, you can go to work anywhere. Without it, well ... there's always Barber college. Or how about an exciting career in electronics? Good luck and Happy New Year to ya.. Answer: National Freight also has a regional, for southwest looks pretty good except for the deadhead miles. EsterJ Answer: Or how about an exciting career in electronics? Nah, ya don't wanna do that. I just came from that line of work... no pay. de KJ5KX Answer: out of Altus,Ok...they bill themselves as a 48 state carrier, but you dont see them going too far past TX,NM,OK the haul a lot of sheetrock and have recently started hauling glass outa PPG in Wichita Falls.......Also might wanna check with Maverick outa Little Rock, they supposedly get their drivers home every weekend and just recently bought out "Jewitt-Scott" outa Mangum,Ok and those boys run alot of sheetrock outa Quanah,TX back to the metroplex. Hanson/U.S. Brick has a private fleet running out somewhere near weatherford and all they do is run back and forth to the metroplex and central/east Tx. By "orientation", are you referring to ..."training"? The reason I ask is b/c... Out of ALL of the jobs I've ever had in any/every industry(fast food, retail, rock hauler, daycare, otr trking, etc.) I've ALWAYS had some kind of orientation.(some were more thorough & in depth than others, but I've ALWAYS had some kind of orientation.) Afterall, without some kind of "orientation" process, how will the company convey to you what they expect from you as an employee & vise-versa?(how will you know what you should be able to expect from the employer?) Now, on the other hand.... If you are referring to "training", then that is a different story. With only 6mnths exp., don't be surprised if most employers want you to go thru some kind of re-training.(maybe just long enough to learn That Particular company's Policies & Proceedures.) Besides, with Only 6mnths exp, you can't possibly tell me that you already know all that there is to know about drving, or about every company's particular P & P. ------------------------------------------------------------ Just look at it as being Part of "the Process" that happens to be the "norm" with nearly any/all jobs/careers. ------------------------------------------------------------- BTW....Yes, there are employers that will hire you with only 6mnths exp...you just have to search for them. Answer: never said i knew everything there is to know Answer: Your feelings about not wanting to go through training again after having been out on your own for 6 months but you should be prepared for that possibility, along with the possiblity that you may need to stick it out at your current job for another 6 months. There are not too many carriers that will hire someone with less than a year and most of those that do are "training companies". All you can do is check around and see what comes up. You have nothing to loose by making some phone calls and/or submitting some apts. I am not trying to make you think your case is hopeless because its not but just trying to prepare you for the real possible outcomes at your stage of career development. Only two things I know of are infinite. The universe and human stupidity, and I am not real sure about the universe. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
