Some chain law info
Question:
Sweet_whiskey asked this in another thread: Hmmm, I accidently went through California with one set of chains. I called my DR and he told me to buy some at Boomtown. Do you think they gave me the right set of chains for all states? I have a full set of four now and well from a newbies idiocity I should have gotten some before I went to California. Thing is, I thought I was only going to LA and not up to Fairfield and over Donner. Can you enlighten me please on that subject. Check out the links on this post. Chain law info There's more, posted all over TruckNet, but my search using "tire chain law" came up with everything but. Answer: When I have a question about any particular state law, I have found it useful to stop in at the scale house and talk to the officers. They have always been nice to me when I do that, and eager to supply whatever answer I'm looking for. I think they are happy I took the time to stop and find out the answers BEFORE I tried something illegal or stupid. California's no different. I recently picked up one of their state maps that shows all the restricted routes. According to Charles Kuralt, "Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel across the country from coast to coast without seeing anything." Semisweet Answer: Hey Hoss, I heard that rubbing alcohol ( for ice on windows and mirrors) cat litter (good for traction) and and wasp spray (to keep the bad men away, lmaoo) are some good things to have with me. Whatelse could you add to my list? I have all my tools, hammer, jumper cables, and well everything else I know how to use. I was brought up like a tomboy...sheesh my dad never had boys. Peace and Good Will to all.. No No Answer: lock de-icer I also carry some Power Service 911 for emercencies. Carry extra fuel filters also. I've never had problems with gelling while on the road, but when I get home, before I park it, I make darn sure to fill it up with blended diesel or I add like 25-30 gallons of #1 diesel to each tank. Answer: Vinegar is a good thing to carry. Mixing some with your washer fluid will cut ice build-up on your windshield (a lot of these sub-freezing washer fluids do NOT live up to their claims, and freeze on your windshield). I also carry a gallon of bleach to soften my tires if I really get stuck on shiny ice. I've used it to get my drives under a loaded trailer dropped on a sheet of ice, for example. Vinegar. Bleach. I'd also recomend keeping a couple cans of "Starbucks Doubleshot" in your cooler. These little 6.5oz cans (not the bottles) are expensive ($2 each) but carry a full thermos worth of cafeine in two or three gulps -- a fast, effective to WAKE UP real fast without sending a whole lot of liquid to your bladder. Answer: Well as for the diesel and engine problem, I just plugged it in and checked on it periodically and started it up. I have one little question to ask. How do I tell if I need to change the fuel filter? I am sure you can look at it and see, but I just want to be sure and well also how often? I know how to change it, I just don't know for sure on when. Peace and Good Will No No P.S. thanks for the advice on bleach and vinegar, I would have never guessed it.
