cdl A six years ago and no experience, possible expediting j
Question:
I got my cdl A six years ago and do not have any tractor trailer experience. Have some bus driving. An owner operator, who leases to an expediting company, offered me to be a team driver for 77 cents a mile. He knows that I do not have any experience. I live in florida. i would have to drive to south georgia to go to work. I would have to be out 4 weeks at a time. would a years experience drving for a n expediting company with an owner operator be considered valid experience for a conventional truck company such as jb hunt? I donnot know of any other truck company that would take a driver with no experience and graduated 6 years ago and lives in ft myers fl and offer them a job. do you?

Answer:
If it is a tractor trailer you will be driving the experience will be more than enough. Expediting is fast paced. If it is a straight truck then it will be the same as no experience. Because you still won't have any.

Answer:
there are several different offers. one was as a team driver on a tractor trailer.

Answer:
Let me see, spend 4 weeks 24/7 with some guy in a truck? I don't think so LOL. The problem would be just get along with someone that long. Hard enough to do 4 weeks by yourself

Answer:
Tell him you will not take more than $350 per week and then you will have the training special. At least that is how most large companies do it.
Come to think of it, what kind of a deal is 0.77 / mile?? Am I missing something here??

Answer:
Any position you get that is OTR in a TT will give you the needed experience.
Expediting as I said is fast paced work and generally pays better than most general freight companies because of the demands. I've thought about doing that my self but home time is not good. Not to mention that I have a hard time sleeping in a moving truck.
You need to be sure the O/O will give you the needed training before you start team driving. Not being in a TT for six years means you have forhgotten most of what you learned. Makes me wonder why an O/O would take you right away. Most likely he's loosing money running solo and getting a little desperate. No offense to you. Most O/O's would not take a person with no skills until after they were trained unless they were trainers themselves.
What's the name of the company he is leased on with.

Answer:
i think he said straight trucks are leased ot panther and tractors are leased to fed ex

Answer:
Even though he's an O/O, doesn't fedex have to pre approve who's hauling their trailer and freight? Seems kind of funny, there are insurance issues and carrier issues with drivers with no recent experience. How is this O/O getting around all that.
And that 77cpm sound funny too. I'm guessing your spitting 38.5cpm each, right????
That's a great deal for someone in your current position if your getting 38.5cpm.
Why would you work for JB Hunt if you can take running team instead. If you two get along and you can sleep in a moving truck OK, that sounds like a good deal. Not many drivers are making 38.5cpm in this industry. Especially living in FL.
