Maverick
Question:
They have maroon trucks. Flatbed trailers. Maverick Answer: I have been with Maverick for 9 months.Best move I have ever made.Great equipment and have been home nearly every weekend.Everything the recruiter told me was the truth.Check them out. Answer: Well, not entirely true...They have "Pumpkin" Orange ones too...They bought SNI glass division, so there are some orange ones as well.... Answer: About that home weekend deal. Would that be home Saturday leave Sunday or home Friday leave Monday? And just how rough and tough do you have to be for Flatbeds? Could an old fat man do it? Answer: After a few weeks of doing it you'll still be old but not as fat. The only thing I hated about FB's is the tarps. Hot and humid days, cold and windy days, just plane windy days etc. etc. all make for a bad day with tarps. Putting them on and taking them off, bending over and rolling them up are all things you'll have to get use to. Personally I hate tarps and won't do it again. If I was just starting out again and wanted FB's then Maverick would be my choice. I see allot of their trucks in North Texas and about half are tarped loads and half aren't. Their trucks and trailers look to be in good shape and their drivers appear professional. That along with their reputation would make them a top choice for a newbie IMO. . Maverick Specialized I saw that on their site. That's not bad for newbie pay. Schneider Specialized was a job I wanted for a while because of the experience I could have gained. Unfortunately living in South FL I wouldn't have been home much so I passed on it. Now that Maverick has it and their pay is good it would be worth it for a newbie to check out. Having looked at their Safestat score it's easy to tell they hire allot of newbies. Their driver score is poor but it is mostly hours violations and their vehicle score is mainly load securement. Both are things newbies have trouble with. On the other hand Maverick could fix that if they wanted to. Maverick Safestat results, check out the tabs on the upper left and click on the "new reports" at the bottom of each area for better information. Answer: Tarping wouldn't be so hard if companies would spend the extra $$$ and get the three-piece tarp set instead of the heavy 2-piece lumber tarps. Everytime I see a driver folding his tarps, I always walk up and help him fold it, knowing its a back-breaker just lifting one 2-piece tarp set. I've only seen O/Os carrying the lighter 3-piece sets. Maybe they'd bring the price down on 3-piece sets if they'd start making them in China. They're already selling big-truck tires imported from China that sells for almost the same price as recaps.
