Some pics of what you might want to expect. (Post your pics here.)
Question:
I'll start this off per Driver8's request.
Post your pics here for newbies to see what life can be like on the road.
(I removed driver8's quote cause he put it below.)

Answer:
Highway I80 closed in Neb and stuck in a TS. It was very dead there, no one moving except to refuel.
A hospitol in North carolina. The road getting in there is almost a double S. Had to stay off the grass.
This road has a double line down the middle. For what reason I couldn't figure out since my truck barely fit on the road. The building was one of many you couldn't see around.
DC, always a joy.

For the newbies, I will elaborate on my photos (I also reposted them below for clarity).
The below pic is of my truck after I snaked my way into a Walmart Supercenter that was under construction. As you can see, there are plenty of roof supports, construction lifts, and debris all around. And it was dark (I was actually delivering the lighting fixtures--all that was in there were construction lights). Care had to be taken in working my way through. I took advantage of an opportunity to walk through the building before heading in, and I was able to select the best "route" to get to the corner "delivery". I also had to turn the truck around and back into position.
This pic shows the hole I had to come through. This is actually a section of wall that had not yet been put in place. I had to make a tight turn from outside, then climb over a dirt berm that covered the foundation. You can see more of the obstacles that I faced. Of course, I had to go out that way, too. Once again, I walked the "route" and found the best way to get out.
Why not use the loading docks, you might ask? Well, the quick answer is they didn't exist yet. So, the lesson for today is to be careful, and realize that many hard delivery/pickup problems can be solved with patience and skill. Sometimes, you can even ask advice from other drivers (or in my case the construction foreman).

Answer:
Here I am delivering kitchen/bath cabinets to a former hotel in downtown Omaha, NE (it is being renovated into apartments). Because of the construction barricades, I had to occupy a lane while unloading (there was still one lane left). I also had to put the truck as close to the barricades as possible. Note that my trailer tandems are forward to make the downtown turns easier. It was very helpful to know ahead of time what I would face (the receiver gave me good info--newbies please ask them if there are any trouble spots, they will help you).
Where is the dock? I dunno, somewhere between the buildings, I guess.
This place is a tire shop, and I was playing LTL with three stops on that run (1,000 tires total).
Here is another tire stop. This "warehouse" is in an alley, and that was not as much a problem as where the receiver wanted the back end of the trailer spotted. Okay, I'll put it as close to the building as I can. Yep, watch out for those poles. Also helps to be aware of objects on the "blind side" (I checked first).

Not my finest moment. Spent three hours digging tracks with my bare hands and
installing chains before trying to move. Got it out without sliding into the ditch.

Answer:
Things you don't expect to happen on a trip...........I well remember this one, we had to haul this trailer from WY to IL with that axle chained up...............

Answer:

Well it better than having an axle sticking out of your trailer. One of the companies I worked for had an axile from a South bound truck do that. He was heading Northbound on I 75. The axle went throught the Center, over a Lowboy and over his cab into the Dry Van front end. Wish I had a picture of it to show.Honoring and Remembering Our POW - MIAs

Answer:
I like that picture of the GW bridge.
Last week I made my first trip out to Long Island.I had the "priviledge" of waiting in traffic at the GW for almost 2 hours. When I got to the point near where you snapped that pic I called the customer.I told him I was in traffic at the bridge but was going across it as we spoke. The customer was about 20 miles away so I said "I should see you in about 30 minutes or so".There was a silence on the the phone and then a laugh when the customer asked "this your first trip out here?" I said "yes".His reply was "I'll see you in 2 hours"!!!!!!
