Swift and Advance trucking school in fontana
Question:
Spoke with a recruiter and they said they could get me trained and on the road within two weeks, with an eight month comitment . My question is has anybody here been through this course? and would you bypass this and go to the school in phoenix. I live in San Diego and have a California license so the school in fontana I assume would be easier as far as the DMV paperwork.

Answer:
You wouldn't happen to be willing to share the name of that recruiter would you?
I am unaware what training, or training schedule, would be taking place at the SWIFT school the recruiter is referring to which would have a current non-CDL holder completely and SAFELY trained in a mere two weeks.
You will be driving with a trainer for a period of weeks after completing ANY CDL course with the big carriers. Even so, a two week course, even if it is a factual course, is not even a minimal amount of time to learn everything you need be safely behind the wheel even with a trainer. I would be interested in more information on this course myself.

Answer:
If you don't have a CDL yet then 2 weeks training for the CDL is about right for some of the CDL Mills. Swift on the other hand requires 23 days.
"Comprehensive 23 day Course"

Of course they could be using a different school since none of their schools listed are in Ca. I can't find the info but I'm sure their OTR on the job training is longer than 2 weeks. Most companies require new drivers to go out for 4 weeks with a trainer, some as little as 3 weeks. I've never heard of 2 weeks.
I would call the recruiter back and get some clarification on what he /she is offering.

Answer:
A 2 week course for the CDL alone does make sense. I was going by what was provided, "Spoke with a recruiter and they said they could get me trained and on the road within two weeks,"
Trained and then on the road with a trainer is duable when coupled with the 23 days to complete the course (Does that equate to 9 days of behind the wheel training or?). Although, a comprehensive 4-6 week course would have a driver up and running on ALL cylinders possibly?

Answer:
I didn't know they had a training school in Fontana. 2 weeks? Check the facts and ask again. Try SNI they have a school in Fontana that is a lot better than Swift's. BOL .
Answer:

Swift doesnt have a school in Fontana, what they do is go thru an existing school- Advance school of trucking. Other than the fact that it is through Swift it seems like it is a pretty good deal, only an eight month comittment with no credit check. I would be willing to go to the poenix school I just dont want to deal with the DMV paperwork, transfer of license etc..

Answer:
As a 3.5 year Swift Fontana driver, here's what I know and did. They used US Truck Driving school when I went through it. Advance will get you your CDL in two weeks. ALL THEY TEACH YOU IS HOW TO PASS THE CDL TEST, they teach you nothing about driving a truck. Once you get your CDL, you will go through 3-4 days classroom orientation at the Fontana terminal. Upon completion, you will be assigned to a Mentor (trainer) for 45 days of over the road training. Any home time you get during that time does not count, it's 45 full days in the truck over the road. After completion of the 45 days, you'll have an 8 hr finishing class. Then you'll be assigned to a truck.
As far as Phoenix or Fontana, I don't think it matters though Fontana is a heck of a lot closer to San Diego for home time during the school and training.
Now lemme see if I can tell you everything the Recruiter dosen't tell you about training and costs.
While attending Advance, your Motel (and you'll need one living in SD) is not paid nor are your meals. Swift will pay your motel during Advance but you'll have to pay it back $25 a week deducted from your pay. There is a free shuttle from the motel to school. During orientation your motel is paid as well as coffee and sweet rolls for breakfast, and a decent lunch is provided. During the 45 day training, you are responsible for all your meals as well as personal expenses. They will advance you $100 as soon as you are on the truck and allow $100 per week advance thereafter.
As far as tuition for Advance, here's how it works. It's your loan, swift will make the loan payments while you're employed with Swift. THEY DO NOT PAY THE INTEREST ON THE LOAN. You are responsible for that., find out in advance how much that amount is soz ya know going in. If you fail the background check, drug AND alcohol test, or are a failure/fired during training, you are totally responsible for the loan. If you quit or are fired at any time during the first 8 months, you are responsible for the remaining balance of the loan.
Hope this helps

Answer:
Don't DO IT. K1221N Look into Schneider, CR England or some other run of the mill school. I know a driver
going through a legal loophole with Swift as we speak. Swift will screw U 2 times, with the loan and your
pay. If possible look into government funded programs with the WIA to get through school. Those BONE
HEADED Idiots at swift couldn't run A DAIRY QUEEN. Yeah U might go through some BS with other
start up companies. BUT UNLIKE SWIFT DRIVERS U CAN AT LEAST WALK WITH YOUR HEAD UP.DONNY SCHNEIDER TOLD ME THAT.

Answer:

Thanks for the advice. Spoke with a crst recruiter today and will probrably go that route.

Answer:

All the big companies are gonna be about the same, one will give ya a little more of this, the other will give ya a little more of that.
As far as Swift, I never got screwed during the training, just wanted to let you know what you're in for no matter who you go to work for. There's horror stories from all the training companies.
One more thing, ALL RECRIUTERS LIE! It's the nature of the beast.
