Driver schools , training
Question:
O.K. we all know good traing is hard to get . Has anyone had training they were really satisfied with . Has anyone ever heard of anyone failing a driving school ? I was working for a company in Florida and we hired a recent graduate of a school run by a community college in Orlando . I knew the school and it gave good training . But this was the worst driver I had ever seen . I was supposed to go with him to familiarize him with the product and customer locations . He was flat dangerous . On a divided city street we had 2 left turn lanes and he got in the left one to make the turn pulling a 48' trailer . We were coming up on a driver standing next to the driver's door on the shoulder and while this driver could have moved to the left lane he stayed in the right lane and came within a foot of the other driver . I told him I'd drive the rest of the day . When I was getting bills signed at the next customer he tried to turn the truck around and backed the tractor off into a ditch . I called the school and blasted them for giving that idiot a diploma and sending him to us . They admitted he had needed " a few extra chances " to pass the final tests . I told them there are no second chances dealing with other vehicles on the highway . Training is a real problem . There is a need for drivers and everyone needs to start somewhere . I don't know what the answer is .

Answer:

To be trained properly, correctly, and practically for more than 4 weeks (Thats 2-3 hours a day 5 days a week of actual driving). All the schools teach you is how to get you your license thats it, nothing else nothing more. I had a few "students" in my class that took about 3-4 trys to get their permits and another 4-5 trys to get their license they were there weeks before I started and they finally passed when I did, the next week they were off to orientation at Central. I thought a company could request a new drivers school records?

Hello, RickG
Yes, I know just doing my research and asking questions about attending a good truck training school here in Canada.
There many fast talkers and they all promise or say the same answers to new trainees.
I've attended company job fairs, the schools open house nights, read trade magazines, attend trade shows, talk to people in the industry, etc.......
Some schools I found to be good or rated higher here in Ontario.
KRTS ( Kim Richardson Transportation Specialists ) in Caledonia, Ontario outside of Hamilton
Markel Transport near Guelph, Ontario
Ontario Truck Driving School in London, Ontario
Modern Truck Driving dot com based in Hamilton, Ontario
Ontario Truck Driving Academy in Oshawa, Ontario
However; its still difficult to get true or honest answers even from the Insurance companies and truck companies who hire from truck schools which one is the best or trusted training.
A lot of money for some of the truck training can range from $5,000.00 to $8,000.00 (in Canada dollars) to attend one of these schools for six weeks.
There are no highway intercity or city transit bus training schools even for future drivers in the bus transit industry.
Most in-house training by that company who hires the new employees.
Good Luck.
Drive safe on the roads......................
Answer:
My daughter just finished with agood truck driving school in Pine Bluffs, Arkansas. Probably not what you're looking for. But, she insists I go to that one. Better than the one I tried using several years ago.

Answer:
An oriental proverb says "there's no such thing as bad students; only bad teachers." The number of truck accidents and incompetent drivers are a reflection of the quality training that driver trainers are providing. Bottom line is , we, as a nation, have no regulated standards on what makes a qualified trainer. There are a lot of incompetent trainers out there who're certifying under-trained, under-qualified drivers!!
