weekend in the parking lot or bobtail home
Question:
terminal mgr. calls me up on wendsday, says we need you on the road the truck has been fixed. I come right in and get told to go from gary to chi town to look for an emty . and then go to bensenvile I.L. to p.u. load to home depot in m.i . after the normal confusion getting the emty, they cancel my load to M.I. and have me shag the trailer to a client in morris I.L . bear with me now . so i drop the trailer in morris an go to one of the finest truck stop restuarants next store for dinner . call for another load and they reasign me the same load to home depot . but now the load is to old to make the deadline an i don't want to mess with it . dispatch talks me into it saying it will not be a problem. i go look for another emty take my ten hr. brk and pick it up the next day (just like i informed dispatch i was going to do it) the next day complaints come sailing across the qualcom like donations on the jerry lewis telathon. solliciting excuses for why it has not been picked up yet . when i get to home depot the guard says i can"t drop the trailer there because it was supposed to be droped right about the time i was picking it up. so i tcall the load and tried to get another one on friday night . now its sat. night and dispatch informs me i will probably be sitting here in this gas staton parking lot till monday before they get me another load. so as i see it i have to choices spend the rest of the weekend in the parking lot or bobtail to my sweet home chicago (at a cost of 1.05 a mile for unautherized miles) and hand in the truck ,find another trk. job sorry to come on here complaining about trivial b.s all you vets went through and still go through and iam just a rookie . i know i have to pay dues but on the other hand they got me out of my house three days ago and all i got to show for it is 400 paid miles. thats not enough to pay any dues. Answer: Bobtaling home for just half a day at 1.05 a mile chargeback from Mi. to Chicago would be expensive. The best thing to do would be to find a hotel until Mon. and then try to get routed west from there. The company should pay for the room plus layover since they don't have freight. That way you'll save the money and have a chance to quit at the same time when you get home. Never quit a company while away from home.Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL. Answer: I agree with 60. I also would not quit as a Newbie over an unfortunate snafu many are subjected too. By quiting the only thing accomplished will be trying to find employment in a different colored truck and a possible DAC mark. It's part of the "lifestyle". Answer: At the very least find a truck stop or a corner with some entertainment like a mall or something. Answer: The problem seems to be that dispatch/ customer service were upset that you dared take the 10 hour break when you were required to. Now, you are getting punished for not running hot. Get used to it, most carriers will put you on the spot, safety says run legal, dispatch expects you to Git R dun!. they don't even want to know about your hours, that way they can play dumb and put it on you when safety finds out. Answer: TROLL ALERT. The terminal man. WAS in the wrong for not letting dayshift know about the delay. It was the term. man. that neglected his job,not the driver. The drivers shouldn't have to push themselves because of a term. man. or load planners' mistake. He had already notified the term. man. or disp. WAY ahead of time that he would be late.IF they really are a good company they would compensate him for layover and a room. Take your recruiting B.S elsewhere.Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL. Answer: That's right. I was referring to GOOD companies, the opposite of the one you supposedly represent. For a troll you are not very bright. GO A-WAY. Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL. Answer: Didn't take long to figure it out. Answer: Welcome, GregSmith. We have spirited discussions here, from time to time. Everybody is welcome, here. We work hard to maintain a civil discourse. It is a tedious and manual process, but we do the best we can.... You guys can agree, disagree or agree to disagree. Just keep it civil. Regardless of your opinion of any given carrier, thier visit here could prove a learning process, for any and everybody interested. If you can maintain a sense of propriety, there could be some learning on both sides of the issues. Mabe some change, as well.Government Ain't YO' Friend. Nor your Servant. A Tax Reduces Incentive & Capacity. A Regulation is also a TAX. Answer: Typical "thinking" (and I use that term loosely ) of the idiots in the office. They think that the driver is an extension of the truck, not a living breathing human with feelings and needs outside of the business. To the truck company and all the morons in the office who have no clue what it is like to drive a truck for a living because they have never done it, the driver only exists to deliver the load by any means necessary, including but not limited to; -ignoring HOS regulations pertaining to maximum driving time and minimum rest periods; -ignoring posted speed limits; -ignoring dangerous driving conditions; -ignoring drivers needs for food, rest and other personal duties; -ignoring drivers hometime needs and requests. The problem with truck companies and their dispatchers, terminal managers, and all other assorted morons who work in the office nowadays is that they don't give a goddamn about the drivers, without whom there would be no truck company. And you are apparently not smart enough to realize that if you don't cater to the driver and keep the driver happy, he has little incentive to contribute to the company's well being. Again, because you likely aren't smart enough to understand the concept, WITHOUT THE DRIVER THERE IS NO TRUCK COMPANY. If you don't keep me happy, I have no incentive to keep you happy. If you don't keep me happy, I hope and pray your truck company goes bankrupt. Because it makes little difference to me, I can be driving for some other moron next week pulling the same freight to the same docks in the same kind of trucks for the same or better money. YOU, the morons who think you run the truck company, need to remember that there are hundreds of truck companies out there all doing about the same thing for about the same pay - there is only one thing a truck company can do to distinguish itself from the herd - treat their drivers better than any other truck company does. .....55sams was here.. "Carrier" ? Don't make me laugh - you are just like all the other idiot truck companies out there, and your post comfirms it. You don't give a damn about the driver, and have little clue as to what the driver has to put up with. Your post is .....55sams was here.. - .....55sams was here.. and you too can have a dispatcher who only cares about your ability to deliver a load by any means possible and not about you as a human being. Nice. Answer: Sam............. are you serious? This has troll written all over it. I can't believe you don't even have a comment on this; Great advice for newbies. Answer: Solly, Chally. I is stills a rookie on this side. It is a tedius and manual process, and I's doing the best I can. I'm getting a real work out, this weekend. I haven't worked this hard, in a long time.... Put in a good word for me, with the boss, so I can get more pay without more threads. BTW: I worked for the carrier one time, for 2 weeks. At least he is honest: Government Ain't YO' Friend. Nor your Servant. A Tax Reduces Incentive & Capacity. A Regulation is also a TAX. Answer: Welcome, GregSmith. We have spirited discussions here, from time to time. Everybody is welcome, here.
