Why drivers quit Arrow Trucking, (et al,)
Question:
I ripped this from the 'Drivers Roundtable' area; 'What company will U not drive for' link. Figured some of you oughta know... http://trucknet.infopop.net/2/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=475098473&f=531095973&m=6823093456&p=2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "ARROW TRUCKING I drove for these people for 2 months... that's how long itr took me to get away from them. They have to be one of the cheapest compnaies out there.." Wow, it took you a whole 2 months to figure out they're 'cheap'?? Me, less than a month... Layover Pay? Well newbies and oldtimers alike, it is $25 a day after 48 hrs. Or, after 24 hrs, depending on to whom yurabitchin' to. (it's after 48, they NOW tell me). And weekends DON'T COUNT towards layover. Ok? As in, weekends don't freakin' count towards layover. As in if you layover a weekend and it stretches to 5 days plus before you p'up again, you get paid a whopping $50, for only 2 days layover. A whole $50. At first they only paid me ONE day, $25. ONLY, and I mean ONLY after I threatened to quit, did they jump it up to 2 days/$50. I told them they still owe me $50 more. They TOLD me before I started, (was that the Recruiter, or who?) that it was "$25 a day, after 36 hrs". Plain and simple. No one said anything about 'weekends don't count towards layover' as they now tell me is 'actual policy'. I argued, they said they made a 'mistake', and would give me extra $25 on next check,,,i sez ok, obviously, and also told them to pay me $50 more or 'I'm walkin'. They patted me on the shoulder and said 'don't quit we love you and you're a good driver and part of our great team we need you blah, blah, blah and I said I need MONEY as they originally TOLD me they would pay me in the beginning, or I'd leave. Right then, plain and simple. So, I left. The hell with this penny-ante crap. I don't need my ego stroked; companies will DO this. lol. They have about 200 pages in their Driver Manual, and NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING, about Layover Pay. Not on their website about it either. Makes ya wonder why, eh? http://www.arrowtrucking.com Tulsa, Ok. Tarp pay? If you flatbed, you're gonna tarp. But only after you've done 'load securement', which we all know, doesn't pay diddly. But tarping, either 1 or 3 tarps, is only $10,,, That's right, $10. Total. Not $40 as competition, but $10. I saw a guy in the shop the other day that had an oddball load of all sorts of stuff on. Used all 12 of his straps, and 10 of his 12 chains. Doesn't pay a penny. Took him 3 hrs, tho I know I woulda took 4, or more. Guess the size of tarps Arrow Trucking uses; 20'x24'. Nice big ones. As in, try wrappin' one of those babies around a steel coil. haha. Yeah, there isn't any 'coil tarps'. Just 3 of those great big ones. Drug test: that'll cost you $41. Reimbursed if you stay 6 months. I guess I don't need the $41 bad enough to stay. They will hold it out of my last check. $1,000 sign-on BONUS!!!!! HOT DANG!!!! Payable as 1st $250 at end of 1st delivery, the second $250 at the end of 6 months, and the biggie, the last $500, after the end of one year. They all do this tho. Of course, if you quit, or are 'terminated' before 6 months are up, ya gotta pay back that first $250, conveniently held out of your final check. Whatever. All in all tho, I don't know how they treat their van drivers. Policy is the same. They treated me ok tho, and I had no problem except for this. I met lots of good hard-working people there. Good solid people. It's just the little 'nickel and dime' stuff that a driver needs these days to make a livin', and they don't pay. Others DO pay it, and that is where I'm headed. I already have a job with another company that pays $60 a day after 1st 24 hrs layover, and pays $40 to tarp. Much better deal. I only got slightly better than 6,000 miles in a bit less than a month with Arrow. Sure, it is holiday and 'slow time', but to bring 15 plus trucks to Southern California every weekend, when they know damn good and well they are gonna sit, and sit, and sit, is a joke in my opinion. I think Management there could do better. They have a pretty good safety program, tho it is rushed in Orientation. You do get paid $40 for 4 days, for the week of Orientation. And motel paid. (shared room, or pay $14 more for single room). Quit/get fired before 6 months are up, and you pay them back for your transportation to Tulsa. How much was that airline ticket, anyway? You'll find out on your last check,,,,,hehe. Around 40 people per week, in Orientation. Let's see. 1,000 flatbed trucks, and 300 vans. 40 a week, times 50? weeks a year,,,,equals quite a bit of driver turnover, wouldn't you say??? Sure you wanna sign on there??? hehe. Heck, I'd like to see some Policy change there, where at least they pay the same as their competition, tho I don't care anymore. I'm not going to take that 'abuse' of working for free. Truck break down? Mine was in various shops 4 damn times in the one month I worked there. Didn't get paid a penny for all the time I spent dealing with it. Cellphone reimbursed, to call Shippers, Receivers, Repair shops?? nope. The list goes on and on. I can do better than give my professional SKILLS to a company that really, doesn't care. I don't care if other Arrow drivers are happy. For some drivers, if Management pats them on the back and throws them a crumb and a peanut to eat, they'll do anything for BossMan. Not me. Most of the trucks don't even have tilt-steering wheels. They are about like driving a bus,,,,my hands in the '8 o'clock and 4 o'clock position, not in the 'safe' 10 and 2 o'clock position. For me to hold the 10/2, my back and legs are scrunched up. They do have Jake brakes. You'll have a Trip-pak with a place to record the tire pressure, and depth of all tire treads for EACH trailer you pick up. And you're expected to adjust all brakes too. Hell, I do that anywhere I go tho. They teach you how. Paperwork is a bit much too. Free to you; part of the job. Must buy a hardhat and safety glasses, too. $10 or so. Company caps are $5. No, they don't give you even one free one. I was told I would have to pay for my bungees too, tho haven't seen that held out of my check yet. Bought 2 boxes/100. Had to buy cheater pipe, too, I think. Will have to look at pay stub closer, too see if this part is true. Arrow a 'good', or 'great' company?? Hmmm,,,companies like this are a dime a dozen, imo. Answer: I feel your pain driver. Best they you can say is " see ya". Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
