Werner Drivers
Question:
HI,,,, Just got of the phone with my B/f,and he passed !!!!! But now the bad news,it seems they don't have any Trucks avail. in Omaha,so they are trying to make them go to Dallas on a Bus(18hrs) He is NOT happy,,he just wants to get on the road. I think its funny how werner main terminal, would not have Trucks avail. Anybody went thru the same thing????Any advise?? This ,,hurry up and wait,, is hard.Is it normal for this to happen?? HELP!!!,,,,,,,lol you all stay safe,,,,,, sandy Answer: normal in trucking is that nothing is ever the same, plans rarely materialize, and always expect things to change. Besides that, yea, it sounds about right. Werner is a very large company and they may have more tractors available in Dallas than in Omaha, but I am a bit surprised they arn't sending him to Oklahoma City, there is always an empty truck at the okc yard. If you don't LOVE what you do for a living, then why are you doing it? Life is too short to not chase your dreams and eat dessert first! Answer: I was at orientation at the Atlanta Werner terminal. I'd say there were about 50 to 80 trucks there. Probably most were being serviced, but I know several hadn't been moved the whole time I was there. Semper Fi, Wayne Answer: I'm from Dallas and go by the Werner yard off I-20 all the time and there is a boatload of new tractors just sitting there----he might get luckey---I say, quit whining, and get on the bus!! Answer: I used to work for Wrner out of the Springfield terminal. They have at least 40-60 new trucks there right now. It's not uncommon for their to be little or no trucks in Omaha. Main hub like that...Company wants to keep as little drivers out of the main terminal as much as possible. Keep the sunny side up and the dirty side down. Answer: At Werner, one has only a few options for getting a truck: 1. Test out at a terminal, pass, and get assigned a gleaming blue truck that is sitting ready for you right on the terminal property (EXTREMELY rare, but not impossible) 2. Get stuck on a bus and sent to a terminal that supposedly has more available trucks (most common case) 3. Get sent somewhere to recover a truck that has been abandoned by a Werner driver who has suddenly quit and walked off the job. This is what I did, and it is probably the worst way. The trucks are usually filthy, foul-smelling, and in overall poor condition. If the person quit and abandoned the truck, they obviously do not care about the company, the equipment, or even their career. So be prepared for the worst in this case. Not to mention that when I did this, the truck was basically out of fuel and near no company fuel stops, had mechanical problems, and I wouldn't touch the mattress with a 20-foot pole. The truck itself was lodged deep in the woods and had to be removed by the State Highway Patrol. Eventually I got that mess worked out and made the truck my own, but at the time, if someone had suggested putting me on a bus to get a clean truck, I would have done it. Hurry up and wait is the name of the game in trucking. And time is money, so it gets really frustrating at times. Have to get used to it. Answer: cadillac, If I had just come out of Werner orientation and they proposed option 3 as you stated above I would have walked on the spot......Not that they would haved cared one way or the other but ain't no way I would have done that. Answer: HI,, Well he got lucky and got a truck in Omaha, went on his way with his first load. Before he left thr truck had a problem with the oilpump and they fixed it. Anyway off to minnesota he went and ,,,yes,,,you guessed it,,,,,,,,he got stuck there. What a mess,,,,,had to wait for a wrecker which did not come till next day ,,,load got picked up by someone else,,,,He went to a dealer where he could get pump fixed,,,and was told if it could not be fixed he may still end up on the bus(home),then take a bus back to pick up the truck,,, ,,,all this on his first solo trip!!!! I guess we will find out soon, whats up,,, he is hanging in there, and hopefully he gets home soon for a break, lol thanks for listening,,,, Stay safe...... sandy Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
