Hey Hey Bud. If you have a family. Why are you thinking OTR ? I believe Crete's policy is out 3 weeks and home 4 days. Although I have heard only good otherwise. Have talked to a few drivers from Crete and they were getting 0.44 + per mile.. After being there for several years.
Good luck in which ever path you take
Answer:
Drivers who live in the proper hiring area for TMC will spend 46 weekends at home each year. Those of us who live outside any freight lanes get home less frequently. TMC pays on a percentage pay system and drivers routinely see $800 to $1000 per week. I like driving for TMC, this week I got in 2900 miles and made over $850. That is $0.29 per HUB mile. This is with missing an unload appointment due to the weather. Had I made that load my check would have been over $1000.
There are a lot of TMC drivers who congregate on ClassAdrivers.com, there is a whole 90 something page thread just about TMC. More information there than you can find anywhere.Down from the door where it began.

Answer:

Those are some big bucks they're paying. Too bad it's not 1980.
TMC probably offers the best Flatbed/load restraint training but the renumeration is
nothing to brag about.
Answer:
It is better than CR England or Swift isn't it? Who else pays inexperienced drivers that much?Down from the door where it began.

Answer:
at Crete, I avg 2500 miles and $ 1000 a week running legal and relaxed with 75 percent drop and hook.
I take it easy, you could run more miles if you wanted.
no slowdown in jan

Answer:

Concerning Training I'd say it is.

That much? That much is relevant on what you consider enough.
That much is not enough for me,considering what's involved in the job.
Answer:

HELL McDonald's is better than CR ENGLAND OR SWIFTDONNY SCHNEIDER TOLD ME THAT.

Answer:
I wouldn't work percentage and I wouldn't want to live in a truck. But and if you don't mind living in a truck and visiting your family and friends on occasion then Crete might be a good choice and if you don't mind polishing your truck for free or percentage pay TMC might be a good choice. Or you could check out a 3rd possibility, Maverick. If you live in their hiring area Maverick might be OK.
Maverick

Answer:
I driive for Maverick.Have been there for 8 months. They will get you home most weekends. They don't guarantee you home every weekend but will do everything possible to get you there. We are changing over to automatic trucks and all new 102 inch trailers.I make .40 cents per mile plus tarp pay.and average 2500-2800 per week.check out their website. If you don't have flatbed experience they have a great load securement school in little rock.It is the best move I have made since I started driving 7 years ago.

Answer:
I wouldn't totaly discredit percentage pay.. BUT for newbies.. I would highly discourage it.. As a newbie you don't kno where the decent freight lanes are with the customers that pay decent rates.. So you could easily get yourself into a situation where you have a huge deadhead in front of you because you just didn't know that area "A" had little freight..Had you gone to area "B" you would have "made less" initialy, but you would have dropped and picked up right down the street and gotten a decent load w/ practicaly no dead head.. hence you made "more" by being smart.
Percentage would only work if someone was experianced, and had a say in which load you took... I would never agree to a "forced dispatch" paying percentage.. They would have way too much control over your paycheck if they did that..
For a newbie. milage is the smart thing to do at least until you get a idea of what it is you are doing!
Answer:
For anyone who works for a forced dispatch company mileage pay is the only way to go. If you can't pick your loads all the knowledge in the world won't help you.
