Where should I go?
Question:
Soon I will be completing 20 yrs in the Army. I am looking to starting my next career in trucking. This has been something I wanted to do for many years. My number on choice is TMC, next would be the orange pumpkin crew and last but not least Werner. Any help would be great.

Answer:
Do NOT.. I mean do NOT go with Werner.. unless you wish to be treated like a 3rd world citizen.
Of the 3 choices, I would suggest looking at TMC.
I haven't met a TMC driver I didn't like in all the years I've been OTR. Their trucks (flatbed)are well maintained, clean and good working order. Drivers seem to have a good over-all attitude.
They do a lot of tarping, but they seem to stay busy.
SNI, well if you want to pull van, I suppose they are as good as they get as a "STARTER" company.

Answer:
I drive for Maverick.Give them a call.Been with them for a year and have missed being home on the weekend only 3 times.Be sure and check our hiring area.Didn't see where you live. Go to www.drivemaverick.com and check it out.

Answer:
Maverick would be the best choice of those listed. I've heard alot of good about them.
Since you have a military background TMC might also be good. Their drivers have to keep their equipment and themselves spotless and shiny. They get to do it for free also.

Answer:
They all suck. Re- up or use your benefits on an education in something other than a dead
end carreer.
Answer:
Thanks for the info. I will look into Maverick. I really do like the fact that most flatbed companies are home during the weekend. Are the running lanes pretty good through the south? I currently live in Sanford, NC

Answer:
You should not have any problems living in that area. You will attend orientation in Little Rock Ar.If you need training they do that now also. They have a kick (edited) load securement class.

Answer:
Sanford, NC is home to Cat.. they have a skid steer plant there.. So Keen Transport might be someone to look at but they will want experiance.. They haul heavy equipment, RGN, flats, and stepdeck trailers. I understand they start at .44 cpm last time I looked..(for OTR and .50cpm for NE Regional. There are terminals all over . Clayton, NC, Savannah, GA, Sanford, NC, and more...
Go to http://www.keentransport.com/ for more info..
So getting your feet wet with a flatbed outfit first might set you up to move over to Keen?? (Depends on your background.. I don't know if they take students, or what your MOS was in the Army.. If tou have heavy equipment experiance they might look at you?)
Out of the companies listed, Maveric, and TMC seem like the better ones. SNI sold their glass div to Maveric so you might be able to run out of Laurenburg, NC w/ them??
I spent 13 yrs and would have retired but my back gave out on me. so I am driving now (for myself..as a O/O) Here is a link to a trucking companies in case you want to look up their web sites for yourself: It's www.fleetdirectory.com Hope this helps..
Good luck.. Gotta run for now.. got a load to pick up... C YA!
Answer:
Maverick is actively hiring for their specialized division. They will train you to haul glass

Answer:
IF Werner treats U like a 3rd class citizen U could only imagine how those
clowns AT SWIFT TREAT U. PLEASE RUN AWAY FROM SWIFT LIKE AN AIDS EPIDIMICDONNY SCHNEIDER TOLD ME THAT.

Answer:
I think you've been smelling camel sh$t too long!!!
Go work for the Post office.
You'll get another retirement pension.
The Post Office will put you in a truck. Even pay for your training.

Answer:
Have you thought about CFI? That is who I am going with after I finish school at Crowder College. I did a lot of research and the drivers I talked with said that they are a good company. If you are interested call Christine Lathan at 1-800-641-4748 ext 5718 and she can tell you all about the company.

Answer:
Milan Express has terminals in Charlotte and Greensboro. I've been with them a year and haven't missed a weekend home yet except when I asked to run the weekend. Good company and no one lied to me when I was being recruited. They've actually impressed me.
