CDL Help
Question:
I have a younger brother who is 19 years old and he wants to start driving. We're here in texas.I didnt start driving till i was 25 and i got my cdl through the company i work for.I didnt think you could get a cdl under 21 i thought but then i found out that you can but you cant drive doubles, hazmat,or out of state.Thats okay but....
The question is how can you get it if you dont have a way to get insured under a commercial vehicle for testing. Will the dot/dps provide one?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about something like this? He checked on schools but everyone he called said that you must be 21 years of age or older.
Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:
How 'bout this concept. Have your brother enroll in a tech school or junior college and learn to do something other than truck driving. It'll always be there, maybe he could actually do something that he'll earn more money doing and be easier on him and a potential family.
OTW, wait until he's 21. BOL

Answer:
I got mine at 20 I just couldn't get my Haz Mat until I was 21 (I am 23 now) and I had to stay in state until I was 21. I found a construction company to hire me on for the busy season driving locally. Then I found a small flatbed company that I just drove in state with (CA). I got lucky. The truck driving school I went to said their minimum age for students was 18 they just couldn't guarantee a job to anyone under 21. My advice would be tell him to wait until he is 21. Or like previously stated HAVE HIM DO SOMETHING ELSE!!! Go to school or learn a real trade. The only reason I have stuck around this long is because I am nuts and I can take a lot of crap. Plus I am knee deep in it right now and its tough to get yourself out of it once your in it.
Answer:
I didn't want to drive a truck at 20-21 or even to 31 and beyond. There was to much life to live to be stuck in a truck 24/7/365. Still is.

Answer:

Yeah well thats pretty much what u wanted.I didnt ask what you use to want.He needs to pay off some bills and pick up payments and i suggested along with my family to drive a truck since me and the rest of my family drive a truck for a living. There are such things as good companies and yes there is one even if you dont believe it.If your tired of being runned ragged and runned shitty then try and look for a different driving company to work for.Oh yeah did i forget to tell you to look for a better company to drive for?
