No parking at home
Question:
I'm thinking about becoming a company driver. Many of the web sites that I've looked at indicate that when a driver is given some home time they are routed through their home area and simply take the truck home with them. I live in a condo on Ft. Lauderdale beach, and there is no place within miles to park a truck. What do drivers who don't have adequate parking do about getting home? Answer: You never go home! That solves the parking problem...LOL Answer: They park miles away and have someone pick them up. They park the Trailer miles away and Bobtail home. They park somewhere/anywhere and take Public Transportation home. A great number lose their homes, end of problem. Answer: Is there a terminal or industial area close by, where you can leave the truck?Ivey EnviroTech Services Start Up date: 3/1/06 Answer: Your job cost goes up, when you pay someone to park on their property. Unless you work for a carrier that has a terminal with an easy commute.Government Ain't YO' Friend. Nor your Servant. A Tax Reduces Incentive & Capacity. A Regulation is also a TAX. Answer: Look familiar? Answer: Wrong ocean. Government Ain't YO' Friend. Nor your Servant. A Tax Reduces Incentive & Capacity. A Regulation is also a TAX. Answer: This becomes a real catch 22 for either the carrier or the driver. Simply put, it is cost ineffective to have a terminal within a mile of every drivers house. Why not make part of your employment agreement for the carrier to find and/or pay for parking arrangements of their equipment? Of course the driver will have to provide proof of the expense. The carriers are well aware of the tightening parking spaces across the nation. It could be a situation where you must get a ride to the terminal to pickup your truck, which ends up being cost ineffective for you. Both scenarios are currently being practiced nationwide. Have you asked the potential carrier(s) you may be driving for what arrangements are made for truck parking? Answer: The "wiseguy" in me says "Sell the condo to some retiring carpetbagger for an inflated price", move to South Bay, buy a mobile home, and Okeelanta will probably let you park there.... More than likely Broward has restrictive rules, and no doubt the "condo commando's" would declare war on you, deem you "persona non grata" and burn you in effigy.... so my suggestion would be that should you find yourself in the position of needing a parking place....spend some time visiting local trucking companies and asking (grovel if necessary) if you can park on their lot for a couple of days when you are home. Also, some RV storage places may be able to fit you in....So I like what I do, you don't, too bad, get over it. Get on with your life, I am.
