satellite dishes
Question:
Is it true you can install a satellite dish on your truck that you can just unscrew and take down everynight? Someone told me he had one and it was easy to do. and can you just put a mini fridge and microwave in there or is there regulations about how many electrical appliances you can have? Answer: What you can place in a truck, for the company driver, is company policy. Items such as fridges and microwaves, require they either be wired directly to the trucks batteries (if they are 12 volt) or a large inverter be wired to the batteries (if those items are 110 v household current.) Many companies will not allow these type of items be isntalled due to potential fire hazards and that they can shorten battery and/or alternator life. The higest watt inveter that you can buy the plugs directly into a ciggarette lighter outlet is 400 watts. Anything bigger than that must be hard wired. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: I have dishnetwork on the truck, it's easy to program once you do it a few times. I just have the pvc pole on the mirror mount, then all you need to do is put in the zip code of the town or area you are in, the receiver gives you the coordinates (always in a sw direction) then you turn the dish till it tunes in the signal..press ok and start watching..not hard at all. Answer: Bob, what's that run a month? Semper Fi, Wayne Answer: around 44.00 a month, that is basic package plus remote broadcast networks out of NY. Answer: in a T/S and a fellow driver told me that he had at home and that for an additional 5 or 10 bucks a month they gave him the box and dish for his truck---he said his total cost was under $50.00 a month. That is cheaper than premium cable where I live. Answer: Satellite is relatively easy to install on a truck. Some have the polecat mount behind the sleeper. It is basically a telescoping pole you put the dish on and aim it. Others (bob) have the PVC pole mounted to the mirror bracket. (rather nicely done too, I might add) It makes it somewhat easier to aim the dish. DirecTv is easier to aim. If you already have a DirecTv you could probably add a secondary reciever for the truck for the 5 dollar fee. Bob is currently testing my theory, but it should work. Answer: you got time to watch TV? Non-union and proud Answer: you r supposed to have time to do things for yourself (time to relax and recoup), who wants to run so hard it makes you tired, cranky, irritable and downright dangerous...not me. Answer: Hey Bob, I never run so hard that I'm tired,I'm never cranky or irratable, but down right dangerous---heck I drive for Swift---what do you think????
