Need Advice
Question:
I have been thinking about getting into the industry for a while now. I recently sat down and gathered as much info as I could and started to apply to various programs. Without even thinking of the possibility that I might fail the DOT physical due to bipolar disorder. Does anyone know any truckers with the affliction? And how they got into the business.
I talked to a recruiter at Driver Solutions and he told me that I would need to get a waiver from my local MVA but the only waiver information I was able to find was at the FMCSA website but they don't specify if the waivers can be used for psychiatric disorders.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Answer:
Bi-polar, what other meds do you take?

Answer:
Well altogether I take 6 meds. I'd rather not list them unless you really want to know

Answer:
Not much need to list them. I have a son with the same problem. He will never drive a tractor trailer because of a couple reasons, the meds first and the affects of not taking them second. I'm sure you know the scenario.
I would make alot of phone calls and be very honest before taking the dive for school and training.

Answer:
Yeah, but I do take my meds because of what happens when I don't. I've learned the hard way It's tough. But I am going to go through every channel possible to try and get my license.

Answer:
Do it and be thorough about it. Don't take any short cuts or you could find yourself out alot of money. There are alot of other solid careers out there that can pay alot better and give you a stronger future if this one doesn't work out.
If you do find a company that will take you with no problems or makes it very easy pass on them. They will be one of a very few and your career will be limited to them. You don't want to be a slave to some one. If driver solutions said you need a waiver that is most likely what you'll need.
Do it the legal and right way.

Answer:
Thanks, Stuffs I really appreciate your guidance. I will definately pass on any relevant info.
