When telling a green horn to call you....
Question:
A few months ago I ran across a WSE green horn. Out of kindness I told him that he could call me day or night if he had any problems. It seems his old trainer kinda just faded away left him in the dark.
He's using my advice and calling me. Most of the questions are simple solutions. But I'm keeping my word and helping him through his tough times.
He called me yesterday to let me know his backing is getting better. I told him to keep practicing and don't be afraid to ask for help. He isn't afraid at all. He also told me that he blind sided backed. I was pleased.
Here's my problem:
When I tell him certain things, he interrupts me and makes it impossible to get a word through. I tell him the proper ways to deal with break down and he throws up antidocts to how he should just quit WSE and go drive somewhere else.
He's a prime example of a driver that wants his cake and eat it too. He claims he's not making any money.
Who said driving was easy?
Who said you could be a millionaire by driving?
New drivers, listen up. Driving is what you make of it. There are bad days, good days, hell days and days that you don't even want to work. If you don't have trucking in your blood, then you might as well find a desk job.
I work to hard as a o/o and as a driver. I give advice when needed and I don't expect a "thank you," or a nice gesture. What I do expect is some dignity.
I have 4 years of driving experience. Not 15 like most, not 10 like others, but four years. In my four years I've learned alot, but not everything. What I have learned I will pass on to new drivers. Why? So they don't make the same mistake I or many others have made. So when I tell you some things about trucking please listen. Don't interrupt me in the middle of a conversation and most of all be patient.
If you got into trucking because "I wanted to see the US" then this job isn't for you. If you had a 70K a year job before driving a truck go back to it.
What makes a person rich is their kind heartedness.
With that said. Drive, smile and be happy.Sweet Whiskey

Answer:
If a newbie makes going home a priority and driving a truck their job they'll do ok.
Your life should be at home, trucking is a job.

Answer:
More like hiking up a dress Sweet Whiskey
Answer:

True Stuffs and you know how much I hate agreeing with you. SInce you like to bump heads with me.
I just got off the phone with the new driver. He is surpirsed at how people treat him. When he checked in over at Tropicana in Bradenton, Florida the guard was rude to him. He thinks it's a racial thing. It's not a racial thing at all. In fact, the guard was a black man. Go figure.
I laughed and said, "get used to it, they are all jerks there." He can't seem to understand how "we" as drivers put up with so much for so little.
Hobby Trucker what do you mean "hiking up dress?" Are you trying to tell me something here? What's the secret? LOL! Just kidding.Sweet Whiskey

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

So that's why the walls of my sleeper are padded...

Answer:
Alot of people have a that problem. It's a little hard to understand why working for free half the time and under lousy conditions is desirable to so many.
Must be "what you make of it".

Answer:
How does leasing a used old truck that belonged to a different company before WSE bought it and put you in it to make the payments make yourself an O/O?

Answer:
WSE didn't buy this truck. I am buying and paying for it and WSE doesn't see a dime of my money. Except when I used them for the National Account for tires. Those are paid in full and next step is coming up soon.
What does it matter to you?Oh wait, since I don't really own this truck out right then I'm not a O/O. So I guess EVERYONE who still owes on their trucks are just servants to the bank? Am I right?
Cha-cha-cha-cha... Look Banana Peel this post has nothing to do with being a O/O. I was merely talking about a new driver that is somewhat lost at driving.
So I was being a nice girl and lending a helping hand.
What is it you really want to say?
Stuffs it is what you make of it and seems like I can honestly say I've been with
WSE for 4 years and thru the thick and thin I hung in for some apparent reason. I am not sure why I've stayed so long. I suppose I just know the routine. And the fact that I hate change. I can honestly say I've had 3 real jobs in my lifetime and I'm going to be 31 in October. Go figure.
How is your gig going for you?Sweet Whiskey

Answer:

You don't want to know.

Actually you are not an O/O,you're a Lease/Operator at WSE and are owned by them and the Bank. The O/O monicker sounds better to the uneducated.
Answer:
You're right Rabelam, I don't want to know.
Actually WSE doesn't own me. I am free to take this truck wherever I want. In fact, I've called several other companies and was serious about changing a while back. I even called the bank and discussed the issue. The situation was fine and they said the truck is mine do what I want.
LIke I've said many times before, I took 3 years of careful planning and examining the situation. Although, the right time to buy a truck didn't work out so great with the price of fuel,I am not going broke and I don't have to work hard either. That's just me though. I took years of planning to know what I can and can't spend. To you I am delusional. To some point I agree. I can't believe I actually agree with you.
I guess I don't like being a sitting duck to wait and see what happens next. I never once said to a person that it's easy. It's not. I also don't recommend driving to people. Heck I even tell people don't buy a truck.
I'm just trying to win the lottery so I can go live on a one person island. Until then, I have to work and I choose driving.Sweet Whiskey

Answer:

They do own you as long as you're leased to them. I 'd bet you've got the 30 day clause concerning terminating the lease. You'll be free in 30 days
to take your Truck wherever you please maybe. Who holds the registration on the truck can be a mitigating factor.
