What are the good companies to work for ?
Question:
I'am new here and have never been a driver before. Looking at finding a good company to go with, but not sure what can be considered a good company.
I'm also looking at schools. Thanks to some of the comments I have read on here. I think I will do the school thing at the local community colledge. Was thinking of going to UStrucking school in Phoenix.
As for companies not sure yet. Thinking of checking out Swift, Steven, and CRST are a few.
Anyone out have any recommendations.
thanks

Answer:
There are no "good" companies to work for. It's just a matter of choosing the lesser of many evils. You may get some good usggestions here, but EVERY company has problems and disadvantages of one sort or another -- that's the nature of the driving job and trucking business. Good luck and keep an open mind.

Answer:
US Express
Gordon
Interstate(not sure if they take students)
Millis(not sure if they hire from your area)
Roehl(not sure if they hire from your area)
Jim Palmer(not sure if they take students)
Werner
CRST(is an okay carrier if you want to run TEAM & they are one of the LOWEST paying carriers along with Swift....by the way, I do NOT recommend Swift)
Knight(I've heard mixed reviews about Knight)

Answer:
Schneider offers training and takes newbies out of Phoenix. You might get a short list of companies that hire student drivers from the schools you are looking at. Just talk to the placement office at each school.
The Phoenix paper has numerous ads for drivers.
Good luck and keep posting your progress.

Answer:
I can't believe I forgot about Schneider.

Answer:
Try the New York Stock Exchange listing under
Transportation.
Onramp does it in on the Ice, slush and snow..

Answer:
Thanks for all the good info. everyone.
choclit snda thanks I'll have to check out Schneider. Swift and Werner seem to be the two biggest around here. At least I see there trucks all the time.
Thanks everone for all the great info. I read on the forums here.
So far I think I will be taking the schooling at the colledge and look for a company to start with that will refund my cost of school.
By doing it myself I can leave and find a better company if I don't like where I start out. This also leaves me open to move around if I get a better offer elsewhere.
thanks
