Copilot for truckers
Question:
I was wondering if anyone ever tried using this before. I noticed they ahve a new 7 version and was wondering if it would be worth the money? I remember working for GTI for a short time and the most problem I ever had was the bad directions. Yes a map works great but for those hard to find places would it be good for that? I use to call the contract and GTI but everyones directions were so different I was more confused than ever. Your thoughts?

Answer:
Save your money. Overpriced junk.
I use a combination of DeLorme Street Atlas, Rand McNally paper Motor Carrier Atlas and customer directions.
Street Atlas 39.95
Motor Carrier Atlas 6.95
customer directions priceless

Answer:
Co-Pilot is not junk. It's actually very good. What makes it good it they use PC Miler streets for their mapping. Thats probably the best mapping software out there. The biggest problem is drivers depend on it to the point they don't get instructions from shippers or use ther maps. It is good but you need to use every bit of info available.

Best advice : Use your mapping program (PC miler, Streets and Trips, Delorme, etc.) as a "Complement" to whatever instructions Maptuit or your company gives you over the qualcom...
Hint: They build industrial areas faster than these programs are updated..you can get yourself in to an expensive jam if you rely soley on those programs designed for the average four-wheeler!
Answer:

I agree with stuffs. Pc miler is a very good program, about 98% correct. But use your paper map and customer directions from the customer. NO computer program is 100% perfect(they are written by people). But PC miler is about the best you can get for a big truck.SPEECH IS WORDS THAT THEY WILL BEND

Answer:
ALK who also produce PCMiler use use there own map data and is curretly the only truck specific routing software on the market over here in europe we hent even got close to anything like that yet

Answer:

I agree with both of you. I have both PC Miler and MS Streets and Trips. I use them to get "comparative routes' because often times the two will generate different routes. But I always cross reference the routes with the low clearance listings and restricted routes listings. I just wish the MCA had "bridge weight limits" in it.
Relying solely on a gps driven mapping program without cross checking is pretty much like playing "russian roulette" with 5 out of 6 cylinders loaded. So I like what I do, you don't, too bad, get over it. Get on with your life, I am.
