Question:
Retired and sitting at home bored out of my mind and now thinking about driving delivery on new straight trucks. Pro and Cons please from you who have been there? I just like to travel, been everywhere.
Thanks

Answer:

Get yourself a Motorhome.
Answer:
And a boat or small trailer to carry some hobby stuff around in.

Answer:
Well guys you are not very original! OK Been there done that, For 13 years Motor Home, Pickup Camper, Fifth wheel, wife said now it is house time! 4 houses later and I am still bored TV is for idiots, Fishing is too expensive , I am too dumb to steal, too old for hard manual labor and anyway the Mexicans have all of those jobs. What about those escort pilot cars? that seems like it would be interesting and you would get to meet a lot of people! Does it pay anything? How do you get on and get started??
Meanwhile a funny story for you: Went yesterday and took the CDL and passed with 87%, could not take driving test - no truck, when we got home there was a beautiful new Candy Apple Red Volvo w/sleeper/generator/reefer trailer and everything parked in front of my house ! I looked over at the wife and said boy I only got this lisence an hour ago and they have already delivered my new truck She quit breathing for 5 minutes .
Well anyway there was this cute little redhead up at the truckstop the other AM , Boy I would team drive with her for nothing

We think we are.

Hmmm...seems to be nice retirement package. Nothing "personal" but
Trucking has no need for folks that don't have to earn a living wage.
Retirees are what help keep the wages in trucking low.

Answer:
Well you guys may be but there are people who work outside the trucking industry too. The trouble is that I can not get anyone to work that will work and that includes the mexicans!
I have a shopping cart recovery/repair operation: You need lots of liaibility insurance just like in trucking. Work your own hours , Not like in trucking, I furnish storage area, 1-800# and pay 50% commission. You furnish something to haul shopping carts in and I don't care what! do you think anyone will do this work? (BTW I can go out any day and pickup 50 carts with no problem) NOT!! No one wants to do it, its hot,its dirty, they are in a bad part of town, there is a ball game on TV, one lame excuse after another!! And that is typical! I have another full time business (Internet) it involves lots of tedious data entry, some shipping and receiving of mail and packages, you can do it at home NAKED! Do you think anyone wants to do it?? No they want to smoke dope, watch the Simpons on TV and breed like rats, screw customer service!! And I have a third enterprise also but you get the ideal, no one gives me anything , I educated my self because the schools were for the rich kids to prepare for college, everything I learned I learned from the old school of hard knocks. And yes before the spelling police gets here I know I can not spell and don't gave a damm! So sometimes a nice AC truck, the open road, etc, etc. looks good, especialy team driving with that cute Redhead!!
I would even work on a truck for free for a while to get the recent experince I need ( and a truck) to take the driving part of the CDL. ( Passed the written part with 87% but that was because I had just finished a 21 hour round of other work and had to take it on a touch screen computer , no erasing or going back later!
Hey thanks for the pilot car link, looks like they are just as unorganized as everyone else is!!
Hope this picture comes thruogh!
Later, got to go work!

Some of these fantasy island stories are just cute. Wasting my last few years waiting for a door at Sysco Foods for 12 hours is how I want the end of my life spent!

Answer:
Hey Governor, I am an old Texas boy myself, born in Mt. Vernon in Franklin county, me and Don Meridith. My mother was his baby sitter. His dad had a trucking business there. hauled cows. I like your logo!
Fate was about dead when I left Dallas in '57 but I guess its like everything now and built over, it was known at one time for having more tornados than any place else. After living in the desert since 1995 I could not go back and live there, I have tried.
You guys out there wish me luck, I am making a test ride today to San Diego with an Escort Car driver to see what its like. I will post when I get back about my impressions as a newbie among the "Knights of the Road". Meanwhile I have a wino out picking up shopping carts ( Who else? He took most of them out there!) And a college kid on the computer who's vocalbulary consist of " You Know" and " Massive Man", but he can type 40 times faster than I can and spell like he wrote the dicitionary! ( And needs money for junk food).
Somebody tell me how to put pictures on here and I will put the pictures of the Red Volvo on here but not the Redhead ( I might run in to her husband somewhere and I am a coward when I see blood ( My own). If you see an old guy out there hitchiking today give me a ride home OK?
