Question:
Looking to get back onOTR. Drove in a past life, 70s &80s, got out just before the CDLs came into place
Somewhere in the mid 70s, was involed in a fatal wreck with the truck, can,t recall dates. Lost licence for 6 mts. regained lic. drove for another 10/12 yrs after.
Question; will that accedent come back to bite me when I apply for OTR work.?
Being that it was 30some yrs ago; Do I even have to mention it?
Might add tat other then a few warnings for speed, I have nothing in the past 15 yrs
Thanks

Answer:
I've heard stuff stays on your record for 10 years.
My guess is that if you've been clean that long you shouldn't have that wreck held against you.

Answer:
No,it won't come back to bite you. Carriers only go back three years on an Mvr check and any jobs you held within the last ten years. Most carriers frown on an unstable job history, such as jobhopping multiple times. IF you haven't held too many jobs in the last ten years then you wouldn't have a problem getting hired to drive Otr. The only downside is since you don't have recent experience you will have to start from scratch. BOL.Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL.

Answer:
10 years back, 15 tops is about all you have to worry about except for certain criminal felony convictions.
Answer:
I understand I need start over, thats OK a lot has changed, a lot didn't
Been self employed last 15 yrs.
BUT do I tell them about the accident ???

Answer:
Nope. They won't look back that far. There will be no need to mention it. Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL.

Answer:

Interesting..... can't recall the date/year of a fatal accident.
What was the suspension for?

Can you garanty the Insurance Carrier won't? Contrary to what most folks
beleave your driving record is traceable back to day one.
A falsified application is never a good idea.

I personally would tell them if the question was specificly asked on the application.
Answer:
Mr. Rabelam, Sir
No I don't recall the date; I remember the day's events quite well, but not the date.
A lot of stuff going on in my life in that time frame.
The ticket was for ''imprudent' speed, I was doing 45mph,dry pravement, 4:30 in the afternoon, heading west into the sun. Hauling lumber, Car stopped infront of me NO brake lites Anything eles you need to know?

Answer:
I agree about not falsifying an app,BUT why offer extra info when it is not asked? Most carriers' hiring standards are already dictated by their insurance
company and they either ask for a 3 or 5 year driving history. Felonies and DWI's go back longer. As long as you don't have a DWI older than 10 years or any felony convictions you will not have a problem getting started. Good Luck.Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL.

Answer:

No Sir that answered that question.

As long as the Carrier does not enter Canada where a DUI is
classified as a Felony.
Answer:
If there was any type of criminal record involved they'll go back to 18 years old. Since most of us have not had a fatality type accident that we received a citation for I would not depend on much info here. The best thing to do in your case is to check out your DAC/USIS report. You can find out how on the top of the main forum page, "The Drivers Roundtable". Just get a copy of your own report even if it cost a few bucks and then you will know for sure. That is the agency companies will use to check you out. I didn't have any problems at all when I started but I still got copies of every record available so I could accuratly fill in my applications. In your case it would be wise to do so and eliminate trying to outguess what they will do.
Here's the link to how you can get the report.

Answer:
Some companies ask of you ever had you lic suspened.
Being so old I dont see it as a big deal. Now DWI and other felonies are big deals.
They want 10 year employment history and most want 5 year MVR.

Answer:
A DWI isn't a felony in the U.S. I would not mention it unless it was asked for on the application. I don't see how it is relevant being so long ago.
