Prime candidate?
Question:
I am single, no kids-34 years old, work currently as a courier, want to travel, have a place to stash my gear while OTR ,so no rent to pay, and want to only drive 2-3 years then go to flight school. Good plan? BTW-Getting loan for school right now not really doable.... Answer: Prime as in suitable candidate yes you are. Prime as in Carrier, not. Answer: If you are intrested in prime inc then your best bet is to go to a truck stop and see if you can talk to one of their drivers and ask him some questions about the company. Dont go on soley what you hear here on truck net. most here have never worked for them but have (HEARD) some bad things, but as always there are two sides to a story. Just visit a truck stop and talk to some of the drivers and see how the feel about prime. I myself have choosen to drive for cr england, they fit my needs and have plenty of dedicated runs in my area, havent lied or sugar coated anything to me that i have asked about or heard about. Drivers seem to blame everything on a company and when they get canned or quit they go and bad mouth the company they worked for. Its like who i work for some people would say there are a ripoff but they only see from the outside or they have heard things. I'm leaving cause the current MM is a total (edited) and doesnt appreciate people unless his wallet is fat. Its retail you have to take the good and the bad. BOL Byron Answer: Thanks for the replies....II must clarify, I meant "good candidate" when I said Prime. Answer: As long as the paperwork's clean, you boys can do whatever you want to out on the road" Mad Max ...1979 Answer: Hope your not considering "LEASE PURCHASE" like everyone in here seems to want to do as soon as they get their CDL.... Answer: I would say your plan is doable, but not necessarily desireable. New driver incomes tend to be much less than promised, and taken together with the high personal expenses incurred while on the road could mean you may not be able to save as much as hoped. It is possible that working a local full time job with a part time job may allow you to save more money for flight school. BTW, you need to maintain a physical home address for the background check that the flight school will give you. You will not be able to say you went OTR with no place to live. It will be necessary to prove you lived somewhere (even if only on the weekends). Answer: The man knows what he is saying. This is NO BS !! If you are Planning/trying to get into an aviation carreer you must have well documented residential, employment refferances to even get concidered. (yes my spelling sucks ) Answer: Thanks for the info......I would be using my brother's address. That is where my stuff will be stored as well. I will also be staying physically at his house when I am at "home". I've been through a complete LE background investigation with interview with detective and various other incredibly invasive questioning and even explanation of past familial, friendship, and roommate discrepancies real or imagined ....all just to be able to deliver docs for sheriff's department. Background check for flight school will be nooo problem! Answer: Driver8, I am also considering ramping up my hours and doing more work in my current occupation as a contractor to gain money for training as well. The thing is with what I do, the customers change-up things so often it's difficult(not impossible though) to plan on steady income for 2-3 years. So, I'm still gathering more info. I won't pull the trigger on anything 'till January 07 anyway. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
