can i drive
Question:
had back surgery l5/s1 disc 9/24/04 workmans comp released from doctor 6/14/05 maximum lifting 50lbs push pull 75lbs what are my chances or options at attending a company school and getting hired i know ill never pass swifts workwell im 45 one more thing passing dot should be no problem Answer: Most companiesa are using a DOT standard physical that includes lifting etc. It's not hard but showing any distress or pain while doing it can get you booted out. Several use the same test that Swift does. I'm not a doc so I haven't a clue what disc you had fixed but I do know a bit about the test. If I were you I would put this in the medical forum and see if the nurse can reply. You might try putting an application in at a company or two and see if you get called. Answer: Some if not many companies, "Not Just in the trucking Industry" are very sensitive in hiring employees with prior injuries with past workers comp. claims. Especially back problems. With hundreds of applicants the major training companies receive everyday, applicants with prior back injuries are not going to be high on their hiring list. So be forewarned. Make sure you list your Workers Comp claim on any applications you make out. Drivers have gone through the pre-hire only to be told at orientation their application has been rejected because they did not list injuries or workers comp claims. Employers check for this. You'll find a carrier that will hire you, many do not want their drivers loading/unloading because of past workers comp claims over the years. I've been in this business a long time and know of many drivers that sustained injuries, some very serious over the years loading/unloading freight. Workers Comp insurance is very high in the trucking business. Answer: Yes, you can pass the DOT physical. But a lot of companies will avoid you like the plague because of the workers comp . You will be a liabilty. But on your application, put your workers comp info and "roll the dice."Ivey EnviroTech Services Start Up date: 3/1/06 Answer: so its looking like pay for school buy truck get own authority and hit the road will be only option Answer: I think that you'll find that's not an option either -- without any experience you probably will not be able to get liability insurance on the truck and cargo. Answer: already checked that and with 1,000,000 cargo plus truck $7500 found place in shawnee oklahoma Answer: How much experience do you have running a small business? Is your CPA and lawyer already working with other small business truckers? BOL Answer: Would you rush out and buy a plane with your new pilots licence and try and start a airline? Why oh WHY do you think you can just get a licence and buy a truck and start a buisness.. You definately need to get to know where to go for decent freight. The load boards will NOT keep your buisness profitable enough to survive today in the word of $3 fuel. You need to have customers lined up before attempting to become a O/O w/ your own authority. You'll need to have a truck and trailer.. You'll find a ton of used trucks on the market, Can you find a good one? How about a trailer? I would do some more research on how much it costs to start up a buisness before making such a bold statement. 10-15% down w/ good credit on a truck and trailer.. ($50,000 for used outfit = $5000 - $7500 a $60,000 set up $6000 - $9,000 down minimum.. aprox $700 - $1000 for filing your own authority if you hire someone else to do it about $2000 for insurance about $2000 for base plate about $250 for state permits about $8000 - $10000 in savings ( 2 months reserve capitol for emergency repairs, breakdown, or illness). I incorporated and it cost me $750, a LLC would probably be better.. Plus all the tedious stuff, filing fuel taxes quarterly, billing , accounts receivable, workmans comp., social security, Income taxes, accounting, maintaince... can you afford to wait 30, 60, 90 days to get paid for a trip.. Are you healthy? How about health insurance.. an O/O has no health insurance unless he buys it.. (Very $$) Vacations, paid holidays, sick days, (What are those!) Just trying to open your eyes to what your saying. There are a lot of drivers out there.... Not many of them are even cut out to be a O/O (that are successful) Even less have the ability to be independant. It's not for the faint of heart.. It takes determination and buisness savy to survive today. Lots of O/O are hanging up their hats and selling their trucks because of the fuel situation. It's just plain and simple math it's better off to drive someone elses truck than to try and have your own! I am an O/O leased to a company, I have no desire to be independant. I am satisfied with letting someone else handle a lot of the mundane things associated with the buisness. I find I have my hands full booking loads, doing my personal taxes, and maintain my truck. I don't have to wait for my $$ it is always there next day.. direct deposit into my account.. no waiting. Plus I have the benifit of fleet fuel discounts, fuel cards, national account tire and mechanical discounts, trip advances, buisness loans, they file fuel taxes, get permits, prepass, discounted insurance rates, do all the credit checks on customers.. ect.. Do your homework!! Look Before You Leap!! Answer: if i cant get a company to hire me thats my only option i really want to do this but running out of options Answer: This is still Fantasy Island Gonzo. Answer: well i guess ill just suck of the system taking your money disability welfare food stamps section 8 social security let me know if i left any out ill apply for those too many thanks to the trucking world i cant work in Answer: What makes you think Truckdrivers aren't in those programs? Some of you have fallen prey to the myth spewed by the recruiting industry. Answer: I had a back fusion in 1999 to lower disk gone now just all bone. Had no problem with physical my back is stonger now then it was 15 years before surgery .had a doctor that was one of the best for back surgery in the country just would not do it till the last resort. took him 15 years before he would open me up. I am from Minnesota it is against the law to release any info on workers comp. so I don't tell anyone that it was comp. but I do tell the trucking companys that I had surgery.. Most never called back but still looking and working other places. Just remember if you have major back surgery never go from the back go to a doctor that goes into your front for the surgery, that way they don't touch your back muscles or nerves. Answer: There might be this odd chance you could learn another type of work other than driving. Driving isn't the utopia that you seem to think it is and not being able to do it is not the end of the world. It might be your lucky break. Go to your local Work Force Councel and see what you qualify for. You might be surprised and alot better off in the long run. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
