CDL training in Automatics?
Question:
I have a friend who wants to get a CDL and drive, but he is convinced that his leg cannot take driving with a clutch due to a knee injury. He thinks he can easily pass a DOT physical though, as it is repetive motion that causes his problem, but he is able to use his leg normally if he avoids certain repetitive motion. He wants to know if there are any training companies or schools using Automatics ... I dont have a clue, so I thought I would ask on here and see if anyone else had heard of such a thing Answer: I may be wrong but I believe US Express uses automatics. I knew a driver a couple years ago who was missing his left leg and wore a artificial limb. He had been dring 20 years that way. I wouldn't mind an auto one bit. The less work the better. Answer: Plenty of straight trucks out there cursed with slushpumps...not as many tractors. Answer: Whats a Clutch???? Answer: Milan Express uses autoshifters and they are starting a driving school in Jackson, TN. Might be worth your time to check them out. Answer: is it true that if you take the cdl driving test in an automatic then there is a restriction on your license from driving a stick? Answer: No there is no restriction Where I took my class A test the only tractor they had for testing was an automatic. Answer: WH Transportation uses all autoshifts, except for the oversize division. Not a bad company to work for either if you don't mind doing Chicago or tons of broker loads. Answer: A lot of fleets are going automatic, not a big deal. Just takes awhile to get used to. Auto SHIFT - has a clutch for stop/starts Auto MATIC - NO clutch at all Answer: All I can say is find a school with a very small student/teacher ratio like 2 to 1. That's what I had and I'm grateful for it. I talked to others at orientation who had 1 instructor to as many as 15 students. Needless to say they got a rude awakening. Answer: Oh I forgot I work for USX and I have to say the automatic is a breeze. Don't miss the clutch one bit Answer: Autoshifts - Some use clutch for starting and stopping. Some have no clutch pedal as the electronics do all the work. Very few OTR truck use purley a automatic. Automatics have a torque converter. The Autoshifts are just a manual transmission with electronics added on for shifting. Answer: I just picked up my class A about 5 months ago. (WA State) Only difference is when you use an automatic for your actual road test you have to get a higher score than if you were to use a manual. ( I used a manual) EDIT >>>> Slow Poke, Nice to see someone else from the Valley on here Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
