Werner training question....
Question:
Wondering if I will still use the double cluth method of shifting or will my trainer teach me to shift w/o the clutch? Answer: Should have you driving using the double clutch method at least until you have proven that you have mastered it in a wide range of situations. At that point, and towards the end of your training cycle he may teach you how to float. One thing to keep in mind however. During the company road test they usually look to see if you are double clutching and may fail you if you are caught floating. Note: This is fairly standard through out the industry. As I do not work for Werner I can not garuntee that is the way they do it. Shuffler and a few others who have or do work for Werner can give you a definate company specific answer. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: You really need to learn the "right" way of shifting according to safety, which is ALWAYS using the double-clutch method during upshifting and downshifting, never floating or skipping gears, and never coasting in neutral in a commercial vehicle. This is required of anyone taking the test to get a CDL and also required of company driving tests. This includes Werner's driving test, of course, and I believe that Werner tells their trainers they must insist on double-clutching from their students. Once you are out on your own, you can do whatever you want, but don't get too used to not using the clutch to shift, you never know when you might want to change jobs and have to take a company road test again. Answer: I am a Werner driver, My Trainers were both very much by the book when it came to teaching habits. Both tried to keep me from developing "bad" habits. I had to teach myself to "float" while my trainers were sleeping and after I qualified and got my own truck. Even when the trainer was driving he would be displaying the proper way by double clutching. They were not the type to be "do as I say not as I do trainers" Answer: Question answered. Thanks. Actually I like to double-clutch right now. Maybe because it is new to me, but I like doing it. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
