Pam Transport or USA Truck
Question:
Hey guys I have the oppertunity to train with Driver Solutions soon and could work for Pam Transport or USA Truck and I just wanted to get a "word on the street" on these companies.
Yes, I know it's OTR. No, I don't have a wife and kids I'll never be seeing.
Thanks in advance for replies.

Answer:
I had worked for one of PAMS ''sister" outfits, Allen Freight Services, about 7 years ago when I was OTR (now local). Pam does alot of Automotive, Rubbermaid (Wal-Mart), and Trane Corp are their major accounts.
Hometime average 10-14 days out, home 1-3 days. After 6 months you maybe available for dedicated route. Pay raises every 6 months.
Of course just like every company you may experiance problems like a lousy trainer or dispatcher. Do not be afraid to call Safety Department with your concerns. If you do receive a bad trainer that is not teaching the trade, spending their time in the bunk, not showing you how to route/plan your trip, running illegal, being abusive report them and request another trainer. Same can be said about dispatch.
Good luck and keep us inform how you are doing.

Answer:
When I ran for USA, I did get good miles (2800-3200) a week. However they may give you a problem when it's time to come home. If you have any health concerns such as back problems, stay away from them as their equipment is stripped down to the bare minimum and just a tad faster than JB. Real pain in the azz in the 70+ MPH zones. Don't get me wrong, you're not going to get a 2006 Pete as a newbie, but you do have other options.
One load that always makes me laugh about this company was once out of Oklahoma at a Ford plant going up to Michigan. Arrived late at night, got my bills and trailer location and was ready to go. Got out of my truck to pre-trip the trailer only to find that I had a flat tire on the driver side. Go back to the guard shack and let them know and it turns out that USA had received this damage report a few days before. I noticed that they had a load going to Lorain, Oh, 20 minutes from my house. And wouldn't ya know it, my load to Michigan was the load to get me in the "right direction" home. ROFL! I let dispatch know about this but they didn't want me to have this load. Next morning, I get a beep on the idiot box (qualcomm) and my dispatcher wanted to know if i could drive some 30-40 miles to a service point to get the tire replaced. Good God, what the hell am I supposed to do? Back underneath a skateboard and hope it'll hold the weight? Ya gotta love life out in the middle of nowhere.
Happy trails partner

Answer:
Well I ended up going with PAM. They offer sign on bonus and better benefits. They seemed to have tighter standards but I made the grade. Apparently I'll be in an automatic. I thought that working that 10 speed was part of trucking. I passed my tests yesterday. Doing paperwork today. Hoping that my trainer will be someone I can tolerate when I go out next week. Now I get to ride my motorcycle from Arkanssas to Atlanta to get home after 3 weeks in the middle of nowhere.
